It seems like everytime my fuel level gets to a certain level on my 85 250r, the engine revs at an abnormally high rpm. I have to smack the throttle to get it to come down. It did it to me when I first bought it, so I took the carb apart and cleaned it out and have not had a problem until yesterday. I don't think it is the carb this time. and the throttle is not sticking. A buddy of mine told me that the engine will rev high when it is out of gas, so i swithced the fuel supply to reserve and it didn't do it. Any ideas?

On a 2 stroke, if the engine is starving for fuel it will rev uncontrollably ( SP). When your fuel gets to that certain level, is it close to being empty at the on port?

Yesterday when it happened, I could see the top of the in-tank fuel filter sticking out above the level of the fuel in the tank. I then swithced toreserve and it didn't seem to have a problem. I did not run it very long in reserve though because I was afraid it would do it again.

Then that is your problem.

When a 2 stroke is running out of gas they get a lean mixture and this causes them to rev out of control, just switch to reserve and head for the gas can.

Take your petcock apart and make sure it's all clean. Make sure the tank is venting too....
