I've found a cylinder and was wondering what the difference was if any.

Actually the 85 kx is the exact same as 86-87 Tecate. But 86 kx cylinder retains the same bore and stroke. Porting was probably revised in 86 on the kx, but shouldn't be a problem. 87 up kx has a small bore long stroke engine design.

Cylinder was worse than I thought.....bad as the one I have. I passed.
A shop I deal with in Mississippi has an L.A. Sleeve for an '86 KX250. Reckon it'll work?

Why not have your original replated? Or is it really bad, as in cracks, breaks or stripped threads.

The '85 KX cylinder is not the same as the '86 KX or '86-'87 KXT... The '85 KX has smaller subs, a bridged main exhaust, and different valves... But it does interchange... The '86 KX cylinder is the same part number as the KXT cylinders..

That's what I decided to do(replating). It does need repair due to a couple of cracks in the intake port (fins...whatever you call the two dividers/bridges in the intake port), but I'm pretty sure it can be fixed. I'll just have to find a plater that will weld on it a little.

US chrome in wisconsin or millenium technologies ought to be able to replate that and do all the necessary welding.

I just had Millenium Technologies strip, weld, bore, & replate my CR250R cylinder due to damage from a sheared waterpump driveshaft, and I'm very pleased with their work & turn around time.
