Well fellas, i tookeveryones advice, checked everything i could before tearing the engine off, but it had to be done. got it all down, the piston was really scratched up on one side, rings scratched up too, and the sleeve only had minor scratches. i guess the tolerances were a little off but oh well that part of the fun.
a piston kit and honing would probably fix it but i think im gonna go with the 300 kit i have. i need to get it resleeved, port and polished. anyone know a place i can send it to? somewhere that is familiar with a 300 kit and exactly how to do it?
also, is there anything i need to do while i have the engine down? and any changes i need to make for the 300 kit? all help is appreciated. thanks

You'll need to make sure that the crank is tight (big end bearing) and the mains are smooth and tight. If that machine has seen a couple of top ends and or dirty air filters with ride time, the mains should be changed but hopefully the crank is ok.
Nobody looks forward to splitting a center case, but mains are easy to change on that motor so I'd consider it.....
A big compression fresh top end beats on the lower end.
bigger carb, aftermarket reeds, a pipe,
its allready got the best pipe for an air fooler on there, has boysen reeds and a correctly jetted carb.... I wounder what caused the problem? hmmm may never know.

it's beyond bling.

With the damage you described it sounds to me like a piston pin retaining clip may have come out and caused the problem. If you pm 1upfront he may give up some of his secrets.

is that honestly a problem with wiscoe pistons? I mean Ive heard of that probem but never trully have seen it for myself.

if they aren't installed in the correct position it can be a problem with all brands. But i've mostly seen it on Wiseco and WSM.

The fooler will be screaming again!!! I found someone to do all the work on my 300 kit. he's gonna change out the sleeve, bore it, install and machine the piston and rings , port and polish etc... you know all that stuff that a 300 kit requires. all i gotta do it send it to him. he says he has done these before many times so that was good to hear.
once i send the head and cyl off i just gotta break open the case and change out all the bearings and engine seals. i figure i may as well do that while i've got it down. that way everything should be top notch when i bolt it back on.
as syko said, the pipe, and reeds are really good, and the carb is tuned really good as well but the question is, with the 300 kit, do i need to re jet? if so, any ideas, (syko this question is for you) how did you have it set up before?
where is a good place to get the crank bearing, seals and gasket for the lower end?

I would recommend that you get oem for those parts. They cost a little more but are far more reliable. Bike bandit carries them along with a host of other companies.

Who are you going to use to get the cylinder work done? I wasn't aware that the sleeves were available for the hondaline 300 cylinder.

well if you want to beleive this, that carb was only set a bit richer on the needle and a bit of tuning on the mixture screw and no air box lid on it when it was a 300, and it absolutly sreamed! as far as bearings and seals, try to get factory honda stuff also while its out, you may need to check that crank thourly now.
