I've been working on this for the wife. It's a 89 NX250 dual sport bike engine In a 02 400ex chassis. It's electric start & liquid cooled. I used a 250r radiator and shrouds. Mounting the engine was not that bad. The 400ex has a huge engine compartment. The NX250 engine Is a dual overhead cam engine that uses bucket style valve operation (no rockers). I plan on useing a modern FCR carb so It should rev good and run real nice. These engine's were 26 HP stock with a very small ancient carb. Can't wait to see how It runs. I hope the Saterday mail brings my carb :beer

That's what i'm talking about,my old Lady would like to have a machine like that.It look's like the bottom chasis mount's accepted the motor easily. Was that a drop in and you just had to fab the frt and top motor mount's..I like that build, and lot's of room like you say..

Roger, this one was pretty involved. I had to do some things to the engine to make It fit. The first problem was the bottom rear motor mount. I had to cut It right off the cases  The second was the shifter shaft, had to lengthen the shifter shaft to keep the shifter from rubbing the chain. That meant I had to split the case to do the job right. I used a 250r outer shifter shaft sector for the job. Other than that I just lined up the chain & made some mounts :beer

I did some port work under the valves, that should help the bigger carb some. The exhaust was Very restricted.

Here's the finished pic's, well almost finished. I need to paint the frame and get a new seat cover.

It runs alot better than I thought It would. I used a 2008 CRF150r carb. It was 32mm stock, so I bored It to 34mm. This little motor revs quick and pulls the 400 around real nice. These new FCR carbs are a GREAT upgrade for about any 4 stroke. Now that the wife's ride Is done, It's time to get the 3 wheelers ready for Trikefest :acr

Been looking for a bigger motor for my X. Do you think that engine would fit in an 86 200 x frame?

No the NX motor wont fit a 86 200x. That was my origional plan, but It would not fit without cutting the heck out of the x frame.

Bummer. I have been looking at the KDX 200 or 220 for a possible swap.

Jason, real nice work as usual and a great unique power plant to install in that chassis!!

OT question but for you too Jason...

SCEADU, have you looked into a blaster motor into the 86 200X chassis? There are tons of them around, cheap and real easy to hop up. Just wondered your thoughts.....
