I was told my mechanical seal shouldn't remove from the case easly, but it does. I can work it out of there with a small pair of needle nose plyers. Not damageing it, but just popping it off. When presssing it back on, I can work it back into where its supose to go with my fingers. It seems to be spring-loaded with my impeller blade. Meaning I can press on my impeller once installed and it spring about *edit* 1/4th an inch with the mechanical seal. Does this sound right?

yes your correct on the spring, But I have never had one go in or out with simply pressing it in with fingers..all ways had too beat it out and tap the new in..how tight is it?.. put some honda bond on the metal flange and press it in.. to keep it from spinning..and also sound like it's had it's fair share of mech. seals installed.. if it's tight in there I would just yama/honda bond it in ,,its not going to go any where , you just dont want it to spin..it will smoke that seal in a heartbeat

Would replacing it and having to tap it on be a better idea? Would the T on the flange be the thing that holds the mec seal and not let it move?

yes replace it ..it should not spin at all ,, that metal flange lip should be tight on the case.. were you trying to put a old one back in?

this is a Lt But Does look the same ....the flange should be tight to the case, and you should not be able to turn it ..even trying hard..
I cant remember if the R seal came with this blue type sealer on it but I think it does..

Ok see that seal in the 1st pic? Thats what it looks like. I trashed my old mec seal today. The flange doesn't move, the seal moves. That what I thought it was doing. I was wrong though and had to ruin my seal to learn it. There are two grooves in the mec seal that go with the flange. See the groove in the seal where the - on the flange goes? With the old seal by hand I could press on the mec seal till the rear of it hits the case cover. Then thats when the spring starts to spring in. I was just worried that the seal went on and sat flush with the case cover. Not too easly, but I could get it to sit with force. You know what I don't think the seal even turned, the two grooves I mentioned kept the seal still when the spring compresses, after the impeller blade is installed. Putting on the impeller and compressing the spring on the mec seal made the flange's two grooved ends hold the seal in place. *Smacks forhead.
