I was looking at this KX500 motor for my Tecate but I don't know how much to offer the guy. It comes with the carb and he says it runs and thinks its a 1993 engine. I was thinking of offering him $250.00 for it. What would you offer for it??
thanks.

Its an 87 or older. 89-04 are the sought after ones since they are all the same build making parts more abundant.
I would not pay big money for an 87.

If he does not know the year that would raise a warning flag in my mind. Offer $250. If he doesn't bite then go up in $25 increments. Don't go over $500.

does any one know what year kawasaki went to flat slide carbs? the one in the pic is a round slide. from my research the engine looks like a 86/87 model because they were the only ones that were painted black and came with round slide carbs. what is a 86/87 kx500 engine worth?

Its def. an 87 and older engine. I would stay away from it if it were me. The older kx's dont have near the parts availability and some weird quirks. They went to flatside carb. in 88.
