I don't even have the swinger yet, but I did win it :beer and it will be here soon.

I sank the 350X, it all has to come apart and I want to upgrade the chassis before I build a motor for it.

So, I want to mount up this 06 450R swinger to the 350X and just want to know what needs to be done. I found some information by searching but not enough.

I read that .750 needs to be removed for the swinger to fit. Is that .375 on either outside or .1875 on all four surfaces? Of course I'll know better when I get it but I want to prepare. I have a mill, have a lathe and plenty of tooling to get it done. I do not have a TIG, but I'll buy that too if I must....

What needs to be done to get a really good working shock on a 350X with a 450R swingarm? Is a 250R rear shock feasible? and what mounts need to be made, just the upper shock mount? I'll buy a custom 800$ ELKA shock if thats what it takes and if it will immensely improve on the stock 350X suspension.

The plan is to also install the 86 250R front end freshly rebuilt, Pro Tapers, aftermarket axle and some FAT foot pegs. I would LOVE to have this done for Trikefest 08. I'd also like to fab up a removable subframe at some point.

You know what they say, sometimes the best things come out after a tragedy

Here's the 450r swinger I prep'd and installed on 452x's machine. I don't remember how much we need to shave off the sides but I do remember that you will need to make an aluminum tube to fit between the pivot areas (pictured below) and you will want to weld it in place. You also need to make up some mounts (also pictured) for the shock linkage and you will need to weld them to your frame.

Thank you for that picture, very helpful!!

I do believe I read that no one seemed happy with the 450R shock, it was too stiff.

Anyone have a better suspension idea?

I still have a brand new Fox podium shock from the canondales. Not sure if they were a direct mount or linkage shock though....

I'll bet it could be revalved to work for my weight.... What do ya think?

No problem..... ;)

The 450r shock should be set at a 50% sag in order to feel right. I do not know if Brian or anyone for that matter did that.
