I want to repack the muffler on my atc 70. I have had the baffle out and cleaned it now I want to add some fiberglass muffler packing to quiet it down. How much do I add and is there a trick to putting it in? I have never used the fiberglass stuff before.

FMF sells it by the pack buy one pack and it should do it for you! I repacked my Bassani slincer on my 82 250r and we all know how big them silencers are and one pack of FMF silencer packing did the job!

I just wrap a few winds of string around the packing to hold it on the baffle.
Some use wire or tape, but string works for me. Tape makes sticky burned goo.
There should be enough to where it goes in somewhat snugly, but not tight.
You don't wanna get the packing too tight in the silencer bod, just fairly snug.
You can go with ceramic packing if you want, but I've used fiberglass packing on 4-strokes, before, and it worked fine. Any cycle shop should have packing for silencers in stock, or on display.

It's really easy. just wind it round the tube tightly on the first loop if it's oval (can't remember them 70's, but I think it's round) If it's round just keep winding it until it's snugg but not too much. Use care when inserting the assy' as you want to first of all line up the tubes inside and two don't break the new packing. Also 2 stroke packing will last very little and will break appart (you will notice it coming out of the tail pipe) Just use 4 stroke packing, it's very easy to find these days. The sound and power will be improved too.
