just wondering, could running a rich premix cause the plug to look like it is running properly, but when in fact, it is too lean?

just curious?

Too rich premix it should look all oily but may be running lean when your talking fuel/air ratio, I guess that's what you mean ?

yes, exactly.

my plug looks like a good tan/brown color, but could a rich premix color the plug, and it actually be running lean?

basically, can the heavy premix cause a false reading on the plug?

Yes, because you're still starving the engine for fuel. Which is what is burning. Not the oil. The oil is taking up space in the fuel delivery, that could otherwise be "more fuel" through same jet, if ratios were cut back. Which in turn 'richens' fuel delivery. Lots of people get this confused, and at first it doesn't seem how it can be that way. But it is.

i understand what you are saying perfectly. but all it really says is that running a rich premix through a bike with a different setup could cause a lean condition.
I mean could a rick premix actually color the plug to a good color, meaning the jetting is correct, without it actually being rich enough and cause premature wear.

basically, can a rich premix cause a false "just right" plug color, when in fact, it is lean enough to prematurely burn up a piston?

Say that 3 times fast.
I hear of fellow loggers leaning there chain saws out with the carb and riching them with oil. They don't last as long but turn up better.
