There is a place in northern Illinois that does all my stock shock rebuilds, I have never had a problem, these guys are the best.
Meriden Street Motorsports
1208 13th Ave
Mendota, IL 61342

That KIT might be gone but I'd call one of the major suspension guys and see what they have.

I had the same question that joe f7 had concerning my '86 shock. I was going to rebuild it myself till I saw that what I needed was discontinued. I had planned to put a 300EX shock on it, but I don't like the lack of adjustability and the trade off in suspension travel.
The shaft on mine is straight, but needs to be re-chromed. Will this place in IL take care of that?

I am not sure about the chrome strut, but I am sure they have a replacement that they could throw in there.
Plus they will set your shocks up however you want, if you have a longer arm, the power you have... If you have a modified machine in any way that effects performance, let them know, because they will valve the shock accordingly.

the place in IL is goodwin performance. as far as i know they don't rechrome shafts. you have to replace them. my buddy brought his suzuki quad racer rear shock to them back in october. he finally got it back last month. they claimed they had trouble finding a shaft for it and ended up finding it at NAPA. they only charged him $35 for everything though. i think my 86 tecate shock is a more common KYB shock and they should be able to rebuild it no problem. i am just afraid of waiting a long time for it. it is soft at first and them it does get hard. so it might not even be blown but i want to get it rebuilt because of the machine's age.

The name of the place in Crystal Lake IL. that works on all the local MX guys stuff is TT's Power Sports. My nieces boyfriend who races MX out of FL. sends his shocks up to this guy. I think he can get shafts rechromed as well.

the quadracer shock is also a kyb. i rebuild quadracer shocks all the time. the tecate must use the same seals. i should be able to rebuild them no problem, but i need one here so i can order the correct parts.
theres no way i can rebuild a shock for $35 though. the seal head alone costs $40. then oil, a new bottom out bumper, your up around $80 in parts.
i doubt napa has kyb shock shafts.

Well I regret to inform you guys, but I guess Meriden Street Motorsports is out of business. I guess Neal (the owner) decided to call it quits...
The only other place I would recommend shock rebuilds for is:
Tech Care Suspension
6971 M-59
Waterford, MI 48327
Phone: (248) 666-4651
www.tech-care.com
They do a really good job, a lot of pro racers have their shocks setup by them, the only downfall is they are really expensive.
Good luck.

like i said that's what they told him. they had the shock for so long and i think they knew the screwed up and only charged him $35 and gave him a line of BS. if you do go on goodwins website they have cheap prices when it comes to rebuilding

I just pulled the rear shock out of my T3 on Monday so I can send it out for a rebuild. This place was recommended by another member here:
Bristol Racing
Hastings NY
(315)-668-7195
When he had his done it was $100 all said and done. You can still get the shock head from All Balls and according to their site:
All Rear Shock Seal Kits are complete assemblies, ready to install into the shock body. No longer is it necessary to replace bushings, seals, O-rings etc. All Rear Shock Seal Kits include Aluminum body, dust seal, Bushing, oil seal, O-ring, internal guide bushing/ washer, snap ring and top out bumper.
I guess that means you don't need to order any separate seals and the head is about $40 from them. I have a friend that raced MX and I'm pretty sure he can rebuild them too. I've got to call him about something tonight so I'll check on that too.

Just a heads up.. There's a member on here (SBLT500R) that has been rebuilding shocks for members for quite a while now.

Just for everyone's info. Bristol is not an internet company. They don't do mail order stuff. I had my 86 T3 shock rebuilt by him a few years ago, that $100 was about 4 years ago. he did a great job w/ it. I will be bringing johns shock in for him then I will pick it up and shipping it back. Please don't expect this place to receive, rebuild and ship back out. That is not how he works.
I can do the leg work for you guys and do the same thing for you that i am doing for john.
THANKS

Personally I wouldnt think about rebuilding an old 20 year old junker shock. I would get one made from Works or Ohlins before I would do that. I have heard way too many horror stories about people getting it rebuilt for a few hundred to just have it fail months later. There has to be better technology out there for just alittle bit more than a rebuild price. I know works are around 350 and up.

I hear you Scott but the actual price for a T3 rear from Works ranges from $659 to $879 depending on which model you choose. Even if you get a good deal and find it for $100 off of list you're still looking at a minimum of $550 for a new one. That is far from a little bit more that the $100 for a rebuild from a reputable shop. I'm not one to cheap out on a part because I know it can often result in more trouble than it was worth but I don't think having it rebuilt is a bad idea.

I just got off the phone with my buddy who I thought rebuilt them. It turns out he does (he's rebuilt a dozen or so MX ones). He's got to go pick up the nitrogen and oil next week so if anyone needs one done I can put you in touch with him, just PM me. You can even ship it to me and I'll hand deliver it to him if you'd prefer. I don't know what the pricing will be like until we do mine next week but it looks like the T3 shock head/seal kit is about $45 or $50 shipped and then whatever the labor, oil, and nitrogen are. I'd guess right around the $100 mark plus shipping.

........and that would be a very fair price.

i still rebuild shocks. i charge $130 shipped back. includes seal head, bottom out bumper, oil, and nitrogen. the tecate shock also needs, most of the time, the piston ring and piston o-ring. alot of people don't change them, those are $20 more.
if the shaft is pitted there not worth rebuilding.

He's really reasonable when it comes to this stuff. He has a regular job but he runs a small ATV/motorcycle out of his garage at home. He's been a machinist for like 15 years and has been riding/working on bikes/trikes/quads for around 20. There's no one I trust more when it comes to doing anything from a simple bore and hone job to a top to bottom build. I'll start a thread when we get mine done next week.

Sblt500R is right on the money. Most guys who "rebuild" a Tecate shock just change out the oil and nitrogen, put in a new seal head and call it rebuilt.
You must replace the piston band and o-ring or it will just fail a few months down the road.
All Balls makes the best seal head out there.
