I picked this up today. Its a 1988 ATK 406 air cooled mx-bike. The guy I bought it from said it needed a clutch, no big deal. Well he was right, when I took the clutch side cover off, there was NO clutch at all!! Im crossing my fingers that my Rotax 250 clutches will work. Also the guy gave me a 1986 Can-Am ASE frame. More projects!

I found a couple cool facts on this bike. 1988 was the first year for this model, and only 200 were made. Also it is the only model to come with an aluminum swinger made by Cal-Fab.

Sweet, I'm sure that's going to be an awesome ride. Anyone remeber the 406 powered quads back in the 80's ?

This bike is pretty cool. I have it some what tore down right now. It is a super simple bike! I have a clutch assembly coming in the mail. Thank god for the internet!! Alot of my Rotax 250 engine/clutch/tranny parts are interchangable. It has alot of the same brake componets as the Tiger. It has a Motoplat ignition that could be switched out with the Tigers Bosch.

The ATK frame evolved into a complete offset mono in the rear. The 406 was a killer rock solid bike. I ran one in a couple hairscrambles and had a lot of fun. Latter I also played with the 605 4-stroke and the 250 MX bikes. That 605 was one bad motha for it's day.

Weren't those the bikes that had the sprocket/ brake setup? Weird concept but some said it worked well. Those are cool bikes good luck on the restore.

Yeah, if you look at the first pic of the bike I posted you can see the rear brake system. I dont know how it will work. I heard that they had a few issues with them. Dont think it will work that great if the chain breaks.
