Got a little side project goin on ,tryin to put together a mostly 87 200x from a bare frame.
So far I've got an 87 frame, 87 swingarm with carrier,87 toolbox mounts, motor mounts, thumb throttle, pegs, brake lever/master cylinder, gas tank and mounts. It's been a low budget build so far..under $100 at this point, I'm sure that wont be the case at the end....
So how many 87 parts do I need to consider it an 87?:D :D Or do I just need that one defining piece....the illusive dash with key switch...

I see the red swinger....is that a 1987 VIN frame?? The key switch and white shrouds are a must

Like OC had asked......
The 87 has a key, white shrouds, different decals, a red swinger and a VIN that makes it an 87..............
If those goodies are present, it's an 86 200X. Which, BTW, is just as wonderful as an 87 200X.
86 or 87 doesn't matter to me as they are both nearly identical and incredible ATC's that feel light, handle great and can be tossed around like a salad :naughty:

i am building a 86 200x ..stripped it down last nite and dropped the frame off at the sandblaster and the swingarm at honda to tear down so it can be blasted as well..i have a truckload of parts en route so by the first week of april i can put it back together.

Well thats what the sticker on the down tube says..so I'll go with that for now. If it turns out not to be then I guess I'll put an asterick next to the 87*in my signature.....just like Barry Bonds..:D :D
Either way it's gonna look like an 87* when its finished...I'll be trying to get as many of the parts unique to the 87 as I can find. Rumor has it that a board member is gettin Maier to make an 86/87 tank shroud mould...so white tank shrouds might not be a big deal anymore...the key switch, well thats another story.

I have a bunch of 86-87 parts laying around that i have no use for - 86 tripples, wire harness, airbox, and some others that i cant remember right now. Let me know if you are interested - real cheap... Not concourse parts but restorable/usable.
Ill look what i have for ya and get a list, to help ya out....

I will see what i have for you today and post a pic soon. I am cleaning out my stock of extra trike parts anyways - too many. How nice are you making this bike? A runner or show only?
Your a better man than me for restoring that tank.:) Brapp will recognize that tank as well - he was the one that started the restore on it before i got it.
87s have an extra cool factor to them.....

OH its gonna be a runner... So I don't need show parts....but as you can see I dont have much so anything will be considered.
That tanks gonna be a challenge but its not hopeless...I've been able to salvege some pretty beat up stuff...just takes a lot of elbow grease...or a 4" angle grinder :D :D
I dont know..it seems like the worse a trilke is in the beginning the more of an acomplishment it is in the end...or is that just
I really dig the 87...I like the white tank and white shrouds with red 200X the best...even though the seat and rear fenders are kinda plain.

The CRF has a similar keyswitch. Any keyswitch can be made to work on anythingThe dash and upper handlebar clamps are the hard parts to find...... Do we really want to pay 200$ for a pad with a switch just so we can tell people we have it? I'd be happy with the decals and the white shrouds myself.....

A bunch of 87 parts went up on FleaBay last night. The dash had a BIN for $150 and the rear fenders BIN at $250. Both were gone in about an hour.
Have fun with the build. The parts are out there. I'm doing an 86 myself.

OK - here is what i came up with that is usable for you. Like i said - not concourse...
airbox has slight crack on bottom near drain plug - not noticeable at all - a little epoxy
tripples have a snapped bolt in one HB mount - drill and tap easy
wire harness - missing light socket - but has most elec components. Def. Useable
and some other odds and ends - tank rubbers are there
figure 28 shipped for it all....PM me if you are interested..

Your in luck. Theres a guy on here that reproduced them. Search the classifieds. You'll find him.
Oh just as a courtesy... You should really start your own thread in stead of posting off topic in someone elses thread.
BP379- Any updates on this? Mine is taking forever.
