I have owned a 1979? yz 250 for about a year now and It needs a crank. I have 2 cranks and do not know which one should be in it. The motor was blown up(with a badly bent con rod. He replaced that crank with one out of a 80 yz and did the same thing. Now I have this heep and it came another crank in 1 crank case piece and still have 1 of the 2 bent cranks with the bent rod. Were the yz cranks the same in this time frame or am I gonna take a gamble to fix one?

Just an educated guess, but 78-80 engines are very similar. Check what years share replacement rods. Check the stroke of each engine with factory specs. And check if main bearings and seals are interchangeable between the years. This will give you a pretty good idea. So you're saying rods are bending??

Th guy bent 2 rods (driving in the rain with an open air box lid) Im just thinking is it worth my wild to try to fix it.
He took it to Toads a harley customizer's shop and the head mecanic said he never say a rod bent that bad.
