View Full Version : needing help diagnos prob for 185s

I have tried 2 ignition coils, new plugs making sure my wires are all connected and ground is on correctly and well as timing is correct and valves are correct, and still i have no spark what so ever in the beast. So i have come to the only and logical conclusion that thr coils on the stator are weak od defective or the cdi unit is toast. Would anyone know how i could check the stator coils( primary coil and im not sure on the other one might be lighting coil). I would like to know who i would go about checking with an ohm meter, and the numbers the primary coil should be putting out, and which wires i would need to check. Is there any way of checking to see if the cdi unit is on the fritz. Any and all help would be muchly appreciated, and wont go unknoticed.

To check the stator coil (behind the pull starter) measure the resistance between the black/red wire and ground, it should be 245 ohms. The stator seems to be the weakest link in the electrical system on the Honda 200 and 185 trikes. The good news is an aftermarket solder on coil is available for about $20.

pulse generator was gone, electrical is fixed, now he need to adjust the valves a bit and fix the carbs. Anyone got the front of a 185 seat pan??? he needs one to get the plastics up off the tires

Thanks for the stator specs fox, I got a freebie I'm trying to get going, and I think the stator is suspect.

FYI, I checked my stator and it measured 207 ohm. I got it running last night, and it runs perfect. I don't know what the operable range is, just FYI. I measured another spare motor that I have off of a 200S and it measured 207 also. This thread saved me from buying a new stator.
