The WATA group is going down to cliffs on the 5th of April. Anyone is welcome to join. It's going to be more of a family style run. R-N-D that was what I was expecting it to look like. Cliffs in the spring is usually a good time. Looks like that's what you had.

I have to say that I had a great time. The funny thing was that I was thinking that I would go alone if my brother didn't want to go. Well, it's a good thing that I didn't do that. There was one point in which I tried to go up a hill and instead I went up about 3/4 of the way and then tumbled down part of it on the way down. I too expected it to be this way and that's what makes it that much more fun. I would love to join you guys on the 5th but I know that's not possible for me. I certainly hope that you guys have as much fun as I did.
hondaatc185S200E - It certainly was some nasty, nasty goop. And yes, it was a blast!

I certainly hope that you guys have as much fun as I did.I'm sure we'll be back there again this year. Maybe next time. If nothing else we'll be at the year end event for Fox Valley. We went last year and for a reduced entry fee of $10, a free hot lunch, door prises and some decent riding you couldn't go wrong.

Do they allow trikes at Fox Valley? I've yet to go and I hear a lot about that place. I'd like to bring my trike there is possible but if not, I'll bring my quad. When do they hold this event? I'd definitely like to attend. How is the riding there?

The riding isn't as good as Cliffs but they have a sweet track to play on and enough woods to hold a harescramble. You can easily kill a day playing around there. The year end event or "play day" is in early November. It's when they hand out the awards for the race season. It's a fun day for anyone. It was our first time there.

OldSchoolin86,
Could you tell me a bit more about this Harescramble? How does it work, what's it about, and what are the restrictions? Also, can anyone join? Thanks.

How much riding area there? And which side of Chicago?
Im always up for a road trip, and a new riding spot........

It covers 350 acres and is about 70 Miles SouthWest of Chicago. It's not a bad place to ride. One of the few around here so that makes it better than it probably is. However, I enjoy it more and more as I go more often. Have you ever been to the BadLands in Indiana?

Nope, in Indiana Ive only been to Haspin. The cliffs sounds like its only about a 3-4 hour drive for me, maybe some day.

I just wonder if "The BadLands would be a bit closer. It's in Attica, Indiana and it is much better than the Cliffs. It is about 700 acres and it's about 150 miles SouthEast of Chicago. There is all different types of terrain there and it is a blast. We usually go for the weekend to get the most out of it. It's about 2 hours and 40 minutes from Chicago. I would bet that this would be a better choice for you, not to steer you away from the Cliffs though. It is a blast there as well, but I'd have to say that the BadLands blows the Cliffs away. Of course, this is just my opinion. They both have a website. www.thecliffsinsaneterrain.com and www.badlandsoffroad.com. Check them out.
How is Haspin? I'm going to go there for Trike Fest. Are you going to attend? Have you attended before? If so, share some details. It's going to be my first time attending.

I didnt do a terrible amount of riding at Haspin while I was at TF 07, but I did get a good tour of the place on the few rides I did go on.
Its a pretty cool place with 750 acres to ride. Theres a good mix of riding, technical, and leisure. The one thing about it, WHEN it rains, it can be tough to get around on a trike, even in camp!
TF was an absolute blast for me, it was SO depressing to get in the car and come home after that 5 day paradise vacation.
Heres the Haspin site, you can learn a little more on the park:

I bet it was and thanks for the website. I certainly can't wait to go myself. Where did you stay? Did you camp out? If so, how was that? Not too sure how it will be to camp out for so long. Either way, I'm in and can't wait. Hope to see you there and I can only imagine how much fun it will be.

Cool, I'll be sure to make an effort to say "Hello" What will you be riding? I'll have my 250SX and my buddy will have his 250ES along with our quads. I'm sure we will find somewhere to stay. We will be hitting the BadLands first for a few days and then Haspin.

By the way, does Fox Valley allow trikes? I've been told they do and they don't. Do you know? Also, are you attending the Trike Fest this year?

I'll be a trikefest! I like Haspin enough that I'll make the trek every year if possible, TF is just a cool bonus. Badlands is a great place if you like the wide open stuff so there is an element there that Haspin doesn't have but if you like trails, hill climbs, drag racing and even MX the place will blow your mind.
Not sure if Fox Valley allows trikes, I really don't think so. I seem to recall looking into it last year and they did not. As far as other Chicago land area riding spots I have none. I'm trying to lease a 35 acre retired gravel pit up here with a bunch of riding buddies just so we have a local place to screw around on.
Just as an idea last year I went to the following places:
Badlands - once - I used to go here too many times a year (burnt out)
Cliffs - a few times
Haspin Acres - once - TF!
Fox Valley - once - year end rider appreciation event
Cheese County Trails - a few times - good place for low skill level riders near Monroe WI
Adams County/Muddy 13 - once - cool mud comp event with drags near WI Dells
Washburn WI/Valhalla - Spent a week with family riding the very northern tip of WI
This year:
Badlands
Cliffs
Planning on this year:
Haspin Acres
Silver Lake MI
Cheese County Trails
Fox Valley (this weekend)
Some place near Green Bay WI
Hopefully Hatfield McCoy trails
Muddy 13/Adams county/Dyracuse park (4th of July weekend)
And of cource.......... anywhere else the group wants to ride!

Ok, that's good to know. Thanks. I'll just be sure to bring the quad up there. I'm interested in Silver Lakes too. Hear that's a blast!!
OldSchoolin86,
I'd be interested is some of those other spots you mentioned. The trails could be quite fun I would imagine. Do they happen to have a few websites available? If not, could you give me a bit more info? Thanks. Looking forward to meeting you guys at Haspin. I can't wait. I'll be heading to the BadLands a few days before if you are interested. A buddy and I will get there on Wednesday and will be leaving Friday morning to head down to Haspin.

If you go to Silverlake, get some paddle tires, you won't regret it. And you need a flag, but they're only like 22 bucks up there. And make sure you have a spark arrestor too [they check]. They didn't do a sound check when I was there, but I heard that they will.

I have some paddles already for my trike. Never used, yet! I can't wait to throw them on though. The rest is already taken care of too. Looking forward to heading up there one day very soon. How about you? Looking to go there anytime soon? Do certain days work better for you? Maybe we can get a little group to head up there. I'm looking to get some paddles for my quad as well.

Racing was a bust today! It's been a long time since I've ran an XC race and it was with United Off Road Racing. I was unaware that the AMA required nerf bars for woods racing so that counted out my group. I don't even like nerf bars in the woods! I sold my last set and they were some sweet WB's with the heel guards and pro-pegs. Good thing we called last night to make sure we had everything we needed. We were still in need of some riding so we tried a new spot called Rocky Glen in Rockford IL. It was small but it got the job done!

Hey I appreciate the Badlands offer but it just won't work out for me. I need to be in Indy Thursday to pick up my sister from the airport, she's flying in from Vegas to hang out with us and ride the CR250. I work up to Wednesday so that kind of puts me in a tight time table. Most of my group is getting down there Tuesday and I'll be staying with them till Sunday night.
On a side note the last time I went to SL I had strait paddles on my 84 250r and I didn't like them. I liked how the stock tires on my 400ex felt better then them. I'm guessing if I had v-paddles it would have been a lot better.
Hey if you ever are looking for a ride my buddies and I have a website to post up and coming events...... www.WATA-online.com
The forums are a bust with only me posting but the main page shows where we are going next. Anyone is always welcome to join us and questions posted will get answered.

Actually, I have to fix my Tri-z first. I think I have a blown crank seal, and I have to pick the bike up at my friends house in Oswego too. Not sure when we'll hit Silverlake.
I'm into motocross also, so I'll probably have the CR out on the track next. Do you have a dirt bike?

No,I don't have a dirtbike. I'm actually working towards getting one here in the very near future. Almost got my hands on a Cr250 but the deal fell threw. Hopefully soon.

As for Rocky Glen, it's not too bad. Serves it's purpose that's for sure. Bad thing is that they don't allow trikes. SUX!! However, we've been there a few times and I'd definitely go back. Thanks for the websites. I have the majority of those already bookmarked too but there are a few I don't have. I appreciate the help. We'll be sure to hook up one day soon I'm sure. Thanks.
