I am rebuilding a 84 250r and wanted to know if i can replace the axle with one off a 2001 400ex without any major fabrication. or do i have to change the swing arm as well? any sugestions?
The original engine starts on 1st kick but it seems to be missing 2nd gear is it worth paying for it to get rebuilt or just buying a used good one on ebay. I live in CT and motorcycle repair shops want 100 bucks a hour to work on it.

if you tear it apart and need gears, just find out which ones and pay shipping and I'll hook you up.
hey...hold on a minute! does this guy know HOW to tear a bottom end apart? dont tear it apart man unless you know how to put it back together! and you need to DL a shop manual for it before you do so.
As for your swinger, unless you get someone to make you a swinger your stuck with what you have, in reality if everything works well on the rear on those air foolers they work very well and dont really need modifying, also if your looking for a bit more witdh outa the rear slap some 300ex/400ex/450R hubs on the rear for a bit more width and some offset wheels.
good luck and welcome to the boards!

Big Help thanks guys! As long as i can put 400ex hubs im good cause i want to put some newer sport rims on it. Now I just need to find a place to extend the original swinger.
As far as the gearing I will try to give it a shot. Thanks all word.
you cant really extende the original swinger due to its design, you will most likely have to find a aftermarket swinger or have a complete swinger made for it, but trying to extend the factory one is nuts, I'll cut anything up and I didnt even try to attemp that on mine when I had it.
