hey guys i just bought a yamaha 225dx for $420.. im just getting into riding and dont know a whole lot about atvs so i figured you guys could help me out..
the guy i bought it from said the clutch basket was going out.. it has troubles down shifting and occasionally up shifting.. the clutch likes to become loose while riding it i tightened the 10mm bolt but it just loosens up after 30 or so min of riding.. also are there any minor things i should do for a tune up? change the oil etc?
last question.. is there anywhere i can buy a 12 o clock bar (at least thats what my buddy calls it) its the bar at the back by the muffler.. or should i just make one myself.. i would prefer to buy if they arent too expensive..
here is a pic incase anyone is interested (she will get a bath soon! promise!)

The so called 12 o'clock bar must be a grab bar. May be someone here can sell you one.
Is the 10 mm bolt that come loose is on the right engine side?
Do you tried to turn the center bolt with a screw driver and then lock it with the nut?

after some more reading i found it is called the grip bar thanks tho!
bolt was on the clutch lever.. so it was on the left side of the motor.. and no i didnt try to turn the center bolt with a screw driver and lock it with a nut im not sure what you mean..
what weight oil should i use 10w 40 or what?
yamada do you have a few vids on youtube? i think i saw your trike on there..

Nope, no video of my trike on youtube.
If the bolt is on the left side of the engine ( when you sit on the trike) it must be the shift lever that came loose. Clean the thread and be sure the nut is tightened properly. Maybe the splines on the shaft that exit the engine where the shifter connect are damaged??

Nice machine, I think you should search and read up on the plastic polishing thread. You could bring them plastics back to shine almost like new.

20 shipped sound good to me>sorry to hear about your shift problem>i hate bringing bike home that dont work, but then again i love working on them>the best felling is when you fix it and ride for the first time>gl

thanks and i was expecting it to have a few problems since its so old but it really does run strong other than that! i really hope thats the only thing wrong with it! i think i might put a cheapo battery in it so i can get the electric start going! but i wana get some other things done first and pulling it doesnt bother me much since she kicks over first pull :D

well im currently in the process of buying my clutch basket :D
well the shift lever came loose again today so i tried to tighten it and ended up breaking the bolt.. i went out and bought a new one and tighten it on and i cant seem to get it tight.. i think im gunna have to get a nut on the other end of the bolt and tighten her up that way
well i plan on changing the oil this sunday and im not sure.. what weight oil should i use?

do you have a service manual? if not go buy one. it will deffinately save you time and money. and it is a great way to learn about your machine.

or you can just look for the 4 stroke ATV OIL i perasonally only use ams-oil the best but there are much cheaper options like 10w-40
