I have an 84 yamaha 225dx and it has the electric start. When i hit the button to start it, it hesitates and turns over a few times. I know the battery is good because it is new. Everytime i try to use the button it just hesitates and tries but it never does work, when i connect it to battery charger it will start using electric start. Help!

There is obviously a bad/dirty connection. Also make sure your ground wire is nice and tight.

i just tore the starter down and cleaned it up and put it back on and it still is doing the same thing. The ground wire to the starter is nice and tight and clean. any other ideals.

All the YTMs I've had have had weak starters. Poor engineering.

New starters for the YTM pop up on ebay from time to time for about $80. I've never tried one though.

Check out this old auction. It shows you what other models share this starter.
