1980 YT125 recoil...jerking back...

Pulls over, when it fires, it jerks the rope back out of my hand. I check the exploded view and it looks like it is together correctly, but it acts like the dog is hanging up. When trying it off of the motor it looks like it is working properly. I cleaned and lubed the recoil spring(as per owners manual), Looking for a little help as to what I should do/check now.
