Trick to getting engine bearings out??

well i tore down my 86 motor for powdercoating. there are three very small bearings in the cases that some shafts ride on, and they are pressed in from one side and you can't get at the other side of them to drive them out. is there a special tool or trick to getting them out? would they be ok to leave in for powdercoating since they don't appear to have any plastic parts to them?

Clean them up real good. Preheat the oven to about 425 bake them for maybe 1/2 hour then just tap the cases on the floor. Since alluminum and steel expand at different rates the steel bearing should just fall out.

To put them back in you can just feeze the bearings over night and they will slide right back in. We used to do this with R/C helicopter engines and it works like a charm.

i used a slide hammer with expandable fingers. the local engine builder had one. just slides into the bearing where the shafts go, and the fingers expand (much like a reverse pulley puller) and then taptaptap out pops the bearings.

i tried to heat it wtih a torch on the case side but it didn't "fall out" i'll have to try the oven thing.

The trick is to heat it evenly thats why the oven works. I did it to a carrier the other night and it worked perfectly.

good news is the oven trick worked great. bad news is since everything was still hot i decided i would pull out the studs out of the case and the cylinder. all of them came out fine except one in the cylinder and it snapped off in the cylinder. any trick to getting them out? can i helicoil the cylinder?

machine shop would be your best bet i think.
