Ive been looking at these new quads and cant resist, I have to have one. Im looking at either a 04-05 450r, kfx/z400 or a 400ex. I really like the 450s because the suspension is good stock, plenty of power and handle great. I can find all of them for under 3500, but cant really choose which one. I ride alot of open places and do a fair amount and jumping, some semi technical trails also, but mostly just high speed trails. I dont know exactly how fast the 400s go but I rode a 450 and know they haul ass. So how would the 400s compare to the 450 for my riding style? Im really leaning twords the 450r but dont know much about the others. What are some pros and cons of each? thanks

well, my bros DVX400 with a pipe, filter, and high rev cdi. he goes around 75mph according to the trail tech Vapor computer system thing. so i would say about 68 stock, give or take a few

The 450's will have the edge all day long mod for mod when it comes to power but the 400's are no joke and can be found pretty cheap these days. Unless you're looking to get serious into MX or drag racing I wouldn't worry about it. I ride with a few a 450's and my 400ex has never had a problem keeping up and it's just so damn rock solid. The down side to the 450's is they take a bit more maintenance then the 400's. Around hear you can pick up a nice 400 for less then 2k. In all fairness I do have Works front shocks and I did a little motor work but nothing wild. I wouldn't dream of trading my ex in for a 450 but I do know they are the "better" machines.

Amen to that. The 400's are alot more comfortable, cheaper, just as good everything pretty much. There not quite as fast as a 450 but with a high rev cdi and a pipe they can take a stock 450 in most cases, my 440 down from 507 still whips alot of 450's, 440 vs 450. Its ALOT better on trails, more comfortable to ride and what notk, thats why there trail bikes. Get one. The 400 ex isnt liquid cooled and not as good shocks as a dvx/kfx/z400 which are my bike of choice. There also good enough to be raced. Id suggest a new z400 but if your not buying it new you can pick up a new dvx 07 for $5800 here in canada, or used you can see them around $3000 with some mods. There great bikes, i suggest getting one.

well, i went with a 400ex just because im only young still, really young, and money was tight, i paid round 2400 and got a 440 bigbore kit and a buncha other mods, i didnt bother with the 440 kit because imo, it was fast enough as is. then again, i came off a 300 bayou, haha. the 400ex hasnt let me down yet :D

Well I think im going to try and go for the 450, because I want to start racing this summer. I found a few 450rs and yfz for good prices. If there still around in a couple weeks im going to snag whatever ones left. Either 450 would be fine for me, im not real picky. But if I cant find one I wont hesitate to get a nice 400ex and get a 416 or 440 kit. Is there anything better about the yfz than the 450r I should put into consideration?
