hey lopes what all ya gotta do to go up there? i've heard theyre natzi's about exhausts and i also heard something about vouchers. the stock 400ex exhasut would be fine im hoping but what about a paul turner pipe with a fatboy2 silencer on the R? how about lodging or would you guys be going up for just one day? how would pro-wedges and/or 4-snows work up there? they'd be on an 85R and an 02 400ex. i know paddles are better but thats something i havent got around to buying. i've never been up there and definately want to make it sometime this year.

sorry,i will have my 86X,my 85R and my 86 T3,plus my buddy will have a 89TRXw/310kit.Im bringing 2 extra machines in case of breakage.i hope to spnd most of the weekend on my tecate though:beer

Right now you can . Later in the season you need to be there the day before to pic up your permits and parking passes or you won't get in. Are you going to make it on the 10th?

Kevin, Your truck won't need an ORV tag unless you plan on taking it into the dunes, it will need a Mi. State Park day, or season pass in it (available there). Sometimes if your stuff is in the bed of a pickup and the parking lot is full or lined up it is easier to get the ORV sticker for the truck, drive into the dunes as dune ready and unload down by the beach. Been there done that on a busy weekend before the voucher system.

they willl fit in the truck,you will have to leave the gate down,load the quad first then push the trike up and lift the front tire on to the seat of the quad,then strap the trike to the foot pegs of the quad for the front straps.i doit all the time and have gone over 1000 miles in a single trip like that with no problems

i know they'll fit, its a matter of how they fit and whats going to rub what though. i have ALOT of time and money into this 250R and almost no seat time on it so i really dont want it positioned to where its gonna get all scratched.;) i also have a toolbox in back of my truck now so thats less room. Here is what we did last august at sandpuppi's ride in Rose City Michigan.

there is some creative stacking:beer in the past i have put a blanket on the seat of the quad,and the only thing on the trike that hits anything is the skid plate on the grab bar of the quad,no damage or rubbing what-so-ever

Some very interesting sandrails playing around today.
Last pic is of me accepting the fact that my hole shots on the drag strip are still just as bad as they was last year ! I really was just all fat and happy to be there.
Can't wait to go back in 3 weeks and ride with my Canadian buddys before TF08.

What a great time it was . Few miss happs but everything went well. I had a blast riding with you all . I was a bit addicted to the drags but I can't seem to get enough of it. Next time I will do a little more riding. John the tecate was looking great and running strong . Kevin the R looks real good as well and so did Coreys new rims and tires . I don't think you will here the end of that. All the trikes looked very good and ran even better. What a great day . It was pleasure meeting Dan and his buddy Jim . Very good people. Hope to see you up there again this year. I definetly missed the canadians and can't wait to do some riding with you guys . See ya all soon.

Where to start....... Well i got about 2 1/2 hours of sleep the night before so i knew it was going to be a long day.

On the way there i had a wobble and a clicking noise in the front end of my truck so we decided to pull over. Once we pulled into the rest area we realized that one of the wheels had all 5 lug nuts backed off about 3/8 of an inch and several others were loose. after a few minutes and a couple pictures by jeswinehart we headed for the park.

We got there early and so we went and had breakfast where we met up with t-3 lopes, tecate-z and a couple of their friends. After we got done with breakfast it was time to go riding. i followed john into the park to realize that their website was WRONG when it said vouchers werent needed until may 15th. this was no biggy so we drove 1/8 mile up the road and got our vouchers. We came back and got into the park with no problems.

We unloaded all our machines and mounted up our flags. John, my girlfriend cori and I headed towards the ORV area to take a quick tour of the park. John got through first with no problems, then it was my turn. The lady working checked my flag and seemed to ok it and then she checked out my spark arrestor and denied it. The spark arrestor was a home-made job from jeswinehart which i didnt think was a problem since he had been through there before with a home-made spark arrestor. I went over to dan allen racing and bought a cobra sparky for $80. Got back and TRIED mounting it up. I think when they make a 3 inch spark arrestor they make it 2.88 inches or something. After about 76 cuss words, lots of beating and about 1 1/2 hours i got it mounted up and headed for the entrance once more.

I thought finally i'll get to go see what the dunes are like but boy was I WRONG. This time the same lady said "your spark arrestor is good but now you need a bigger flag with more area so its more visible". The flag i had was a honda whip flag which has a triangle shaped flag rather than the square/rectangle like the others.

I was already in a horrible mood about the spark arrestor and this just pissed me off more. Mainly because that was the 1st thing she checked the first time and DID NOT tell me that the flag itself was too small. I walked over to dan allen racing once more, bought an over-priced $23 flag and shared my opinion about this manly looking lady who thinks she has to make people buy a new whatever they hell they have on their ride.

We walked back, mounted it up and headed for the entrance ONCE more. By this time i had decided if she tried checking me for ANYTHING else i was going to drive over top of her, load my machines, and either go home or to jail, whichever came first. After all it was about 12 o'clock and everybody with us except me had been on the dunes already. This time she told me i was ok and i just had to put my goggles on.

FINALLY i was on the sand and enjoyed the riding until about 3-4 hours later when t-3 lopes had a stator go out and about 15 minutes later i realized my 85R had blown out a piece of the base gasket and probably sucked sand into it. i rode it a little bit towards the parking lot so john couldnt get a picture of me getting towed and then i turned it off and had Cori tow me the rest of the way. We loaded up, shot the bull for a little bit and then headed home.

All in all it wasnt a good day of riding but it wasnt a bad day either. Im glad i got to ride SOME while i was there but i wish i could have rode some more. it was nice riding with some fellow members and meeting danimal, his friend Jim and all the guys who were with matt and ed. I brought my camera but i wasnt in picture mode at all that day so we didnt get any pics or video. I know john got some pics and Ed has some good drag video if he can figure out how to post it up. :postwhore
