just wondering if anyone has ever purchased one of these new motors that were pulled from the 86 trikes. is there anything to watch out for with these. what do you think the inside of the motor is like after 20+ years of storage? it would be awesome to have a brand new thumper for my 350x. what would you pay? i'm seriously considering it. any comments would help

I have heard that the clutches tend to fail since the fibers have been sitting without oil for 20+ years. Other then that I would just make sure all the valves and timing and whatnot is all in spec before I ran it.

i bought one fre 900 and it was worth every penny i tore it down and it was new inside no rust or anything.rode it a little and bored it to a 452... now i know i have an awesome engine that will last for years to come!
imo they are worth 1500 or more

I grabbed mine off ebay for $750.It took awhile to find one that cheap. But the motor in my bike ran great.I bought it and just threw it on the shelf. Then a fellow member was looking for a good used motor.I gave him a price he liked. So I installed the new motor.I had gotten a new carb with it.But I rebuilt it myself and might have did something wrong.Couldnt get it to run good.So I grabbed a used, dirty crappy looking carb from a milk crate.Threw it on the bike.Second kick.Bike runs real good now.

There is a huge difference from a motor having 20 years of abuse to everything being brand new.I would get one if I were you.I plan to keep the 350x for years to come.Even though I dont ride much anymore.I did purchase new clutches as well. Ebay has gotten a little crazy with prices right now.I would hold out and see what comes up in the price range you want to spend. Good luck

well said having everything new compared to 20 years old is awesome! you just know its gonna last a long long time with the right care. these engines are proven to last 20 years and counting i have seen lots of 350x engines all original and running. so just think if you buy one you could possibly still be riding it in 2027!!

I have one I paid 740$ for. I'll dump oil in the head and run it. I honestly won't touch anything else on it and don't believe I'll have to.....

well i scored one for 880.00, pretty happy with that price comes w/ new carb too. should be here in a week. what do you recomend before running it. says it has brand new oil in it. should i run a few cycles of oil through it. i really dont want to tear it down. but i want to make sure its fine to run after 20+ yrs of storage. the carb appears to have a littile rust on the inside

This wasn't recent, but back in 91' i scored a new 350x eng with carb and oil cooler for $200.00! They also had new 86/87 250r engins on crates! If i only knew what i know now i would have tried to get them all. I got them from a school that was going to start a small engine class but it never happened.

I have a new 350X motor, a new 250R motor, and I've had a new 250SX motor...sold it before I used it. They are well worth over a grand in my opinion (nowadays).

the only reason i bought it is because my existing motor has two broken exaust studs, and is just starting to smoke a tinge, to me fixing that alone is worth a few hundred plus parts, it never goes smooth. i've seen heads alone going for one to 300.00 on ebay for used!!! I'll fix the old one ,and probably run it anyway, but i couldn't pass up a brandy new one for less than 1000. i dont think they will ever depreciate.

mike from long island, why did you have to rebuild the carb if it was new? do the seals and stuff rot from being dry?

Like anything that has sat.I thought for $15 for a carb kit.I would insure my carb was tip top.But Whatever I did wrong on the carb rebuild just wouldnt let it run right.SO I sold the new carb on ebay and am installed a used carb with ZERO problems.I am running the orginal clutches too.I just havent gotten around to installing the new ones. I havent ridden the bike hard in a year,so I bet it needs a little maintance now.

Anyone know if the honda atc350x motor would fit in a yamaha 350x warrior???

Any motor will fit into any frame with the right modifications!!:D I saw a frame for sale on ebay once that was et up for a 350x so it probably isnt too difficult with the right tools.

Yeah I know, but I guess what I want to know is if anyone knows how similar these motors are. I have an '02 warrior that needs a top end, and would really like to have a motor that has a kick start since the stocker only has electric start. Plus the honda atc motor has more power.

It makes no sense to me to pay $1000 for an engine that you can rebuild for $100

you can get em for about 600 these days...brand new. and eric...if you can get me a piston, bore job, gasket set, new rockers, new springs, new cam, new cam chain, all new bearings, and a new oil pump for 100$ then more power to you...

cause as of right now...i'm sitting at about 650....and climbing.

I would love to have a brand new bottom end to throw this new top end on.

Thats not exactly an average rebuild though is it?
