I was wondering how many people we had in Illinois that ride trail or track?

I ride out in our fields, and my buddy has a couple trails but other than that have to travel to find new riding areas. I'm near champaign

I'm near Chicago. We generally have to travel everywhere, which is gettin costly. The badlands in Indiana is really good because there's a lot of variety or we head to Silverlake.

Thats kind of how it is down here, I am just south of Mattoon.

yeah, hopefully going to the badlands sometime soon, not a terrible drive from here. What do you ride JRay?

I Currently only have one running trike, it is a 1983 Honda 200E Big Red, its a little rough to look at but its solid and dependable. I also have a 1981 200, I am guessing S, the sticker on the frame is gone after 200, its in a lot of pieces, i was told it needs the motor rebuilt, and all the plastic, a seat, the brake levers, and the headlight. It will be a project and a half but in the long run will be worth it.

just kinda nice that there are actually some fellow trikers that are somewhat close to me :beer

I'm an Illinois triker as well, located about 15 minutes east of St. Louis! We ride St. Joe State Park quite a bit, but there is a new place called Washita which is located near St. Joe as well. I'd like to check that place out in the next few months.

I'm in northeast IL, just south of the WI border. Other than the Cliffs, I guess I'll have to go to WI. Rockford, IL and Wedron, IL don't allow 3-wheelers. I'm going to check out Bong Recreation area in southeast WI. Looks pretty tame, so I'd like to get my son some ride time.

I just herd of a campground here somewhere in Illinois that allows ATV's on its trails, and its actually sounding like a nice campground, I will get more information on it tomorrow and post it. I think it is in Martinsville, IL. It is privately owned and Cheaper than state grounds. But they only have 5 camp sites.

The information on the Campground is: Its Called Twelve Oaks, located in Martinsville IL, It is Privately owned, They don't have many trails to ride on but do allow all ATVs that are not overly loud. There number is 1-217-382-3396. Camping is cheaper than state parks. And Mill Creek Park isn't that far. Mill Creek Parkhas approximately 15 miles of equestrian and ATV trails located on the West side of the Park
pickleweasel_00
04-28-2008, 10:45 PM
That's actually not terribly far from me... But the "not overly loud" part may be a bit of a problem :)
But it's kind of close to Charleston and I wish I had a dollar for every time I drove there when the gf was going to eastern
JRay06
04-29-2008, 04:58 PM
yeah, Mill Creek Might be a better place to ride over Twelve Oaks.

I am in Crystal Lake, IL. The only place I ride is up and down the street to get to our beach. That is going to have to change as my sons get older (4 & 1).

I'm in north east Il along the IN border I ride the country around here some , the badlands , and once I get the 87 200x done I'm going to try the cliffs (don't think the r would be good there)

I'm right outside Chicago, probably 20 minutes. I usually ride at "The Cliffs" and the "BadLands". There aren't any other parks or places that allow trikes. However, I heard that there are a number of trails in Wisconsin that do. As for "BONG" Recreational, I heard it is set up more for dirtbikes, it has a lot of narrow trails. Haven't been to SilverLakes yet, heard it's a blast. All of the other places around here allow quads but NO trikes.
Itrike, you had seen my pics up on "The Cliffs" with my 250SX. You commented before about not bringing your R, I wouldn't either. Good choice.

You're in Brookfield! I'm next door to you in Lagrange Park. I've never been to the cliffs though. Is it similar to the badlands?
R-N-D
05-04-2008, 01:39 AM
No, not really. The BadLands is pretty wide open for the most part. The Cliffs has more trails and it's a bit harder to ride at. However, it's a great time. It's a tough time when it's muddy there. Obviously a much shorter ride to get there though.
Where are you at? I'm just north of 17th (Maple) and 31st. Also, what do you ride?

I'm on Kemman. I have a Tri-z. We usually hit the badlands or Silverlake, but just got back from Kentucky. There's a place in Harlan County or Evarts KY, called Black Mountain. The whole town is about ATV's. You can ride on the streets as long as you have a helmet. There are no fees and no rules. Look it up on ATVPathfinder. It is a long 9 hr drive, but it's worth going to at least once. FYI, it's a dry county, so bring your own alcohol. We rented a house and had 8 guys. Good time!

Hey. I'm about 20 minutes into IN from where Itrike is at. We've ridden a bunch of times. I'm usually in for a ride at the badlands or the cliffs, though I prefer the badlands, of course. If there's other places around, I'm in for that, too.
Itrike
07-02-2008, 05:59 PM
Me and Gag Halfront were just at the bad lands last weekend, I'm going again July 12-13. Would like to see some fellow trikers there this time. Who is up to it!!??

I didn't know that the Badlands allowed 3 wheelers. I've been there many times Jeepin' and have never seen a trike, so I assumed they weren't. Might bring my X if we ever go again.
Itrike
11-15-2008, 09:16 PM
Just say when I'll meet you there , love going to bad lands I ride one of my trikes there 90% of the times I go. most of the times I've been there I've always seen at least one other trike. If you go during the week you are less likely to.
Brad200X
11-15-2008, 11:01 PM
Hey Itrike I live in Peotone! Haven't seen another trike in these parts for ages. I'd love to go to the Badlands, but my X, and my 3 wheeling skills, are pretty laughable.
Yeah, you guys wouldn't like riding with me, It'd be like riding in a dense fog!

11-17-2008, 09:12 PM
Yeah I'm this close to rippin' the motor out of it, but I'm about to start my T-3 project,
which will probably begin when I pick it up next week. Also my skills aren't that bad,
I still feel like I could use more time to get used to it. I've had my X for a little more than a month. and It's only the second 'wheeler I've ever ridden, and my first. I will say its the most fun I've ever had on an ATV. I just love the thing.

what year t3 are you getting? thats a big jump from a 200x!
Brad200X
11-18-2008, 10:51 PM
It's an '85. Yeah there's no real in-between model. Sure a 350X would be a little more usable, but I'm a Kawasaki guy at heart, and if I'm gonna do it I might as well go all out! If there was such thing as an ATC125R or KXT125, I'd get one of those, but there isn't. This thing is gonna be a handful for sure...

I live up on the border in Woodstock. Been to cliffs, badlands, st jose park, went down to kentucky a long time ago, best time ever, think it was called s-tree or something. Theres a small park in rockford, never been there though. Does anyone know if black river falls is still open?

The Park in Rockford is "RockyGlen". They don't allow trikes. Too scared of getting sued they said. Bunch of crock but whatever. Where is St. Jose Park located?

Rocky Glen isn't that great anyway. It's not that big and gets overcrowded with kiddies and slow pokes (no offense kiddies and slow pokes)

No, it's another one. I had seen that one too and talked with him about it. It certainly was nice. However, the one I picked up from him is very nice too. Nice enough that I had to go and get it. He had given me a Great Deal on it. It certainly is sweet!!! Hopefully when you get your 200X complete, we can all go out and ride. You should see Itrike's project 250R he's working on. Now that is one "Sick" ride!

I live in Sherman IL it is by Springfield. I actually sold my 85 350X to Itrike and then took his advice and got myself a Tri-z (after I got the truck affair fixed). There is a place over by Kincad IL that has a ridding park. I think it is 10 dollars a day to ride. I think it is called northfork but not 100% sure on that. Itrike he is a pic of my Tri-z that I just rebuilt the whole motor on. I will try and get a better pic instead of in the dark.

Looks like a sweet zzz . I'd love to hear more abought it. Yes the 350 R-N-D has is the one I got from you. I did alot to it. but that bike has some good potential. I'm sure Rich(R-N-D) will make it right. And yes I gave him a great deal , but he is a cool Triker so I don't mind:beer . Would love to go riding with you all.
Rob if you need any help with the 200x let me know... don't hesitate you don't know me but it's all good. I still have some parts around for the first gen 200x!
There are alot of trikers in our area but we all should make a point to get togather this seson.

That's the trike I wanted!!!! Too bad we couldn't have worked something out Itrike. Ahh hell, too bad I couldn't have gotten it first since I live in town :)
Osoloe...hit me up if you wanna ride. I ride by Veteran's and Bruns Ln. Lots of room to ride and not too far from you. I ended up getting a 86 250R and I've been riding back there every chance I get. I hate packing everything up and paying to go ride somewhere....I just go down the end of my street and bam.....plenty of room.
BTW, it's St. Joe's. And it's also Southfork in Kincaid.

I joined this site in december 07, but never posted till recently after you bought it. I stumbled on this place a while back when I was looking for a trike in 2007....then forgot all about it. After several failed deals (your's being one :) ) I remembered this place and started looking. It hurt to know such a clean 350x sold a month earlier just a couple miles away!!!
It's all good though. Like I said, I really wanted an R all along. I think you told me to get an R actually...even when I wanted to buy your X (which I responded to on craigslist)

01-08-2009, 10:55 PM
Itrike that is cool at least it didn't get parted out but I knew when you bought the 350X it wasn't going to be. The Z had to be completely rebuilt it has a new crank, main bearing and it is bored out 40 over now. The Z seems to fit me alot better the the X. I have a couple of my friends talk into going to trikefest so we should be there unless something comes up.

I have a couple friends that ride back there is it still cool to ride there because we got chased out of the river bottoms in Riverton. There is one guy pretty cool he said we can ride on his side but he didn't want any trash left down there which I can understand. Wants I get it broke in I will have to get a hold of you.

I grew up over there and have been riding there for 20 years. And I'll ride there for another 20. You can get to the woods from my neighborhood, so like I said...if you wanna ride some time just hit me up. You can park at my place.
In fact, I'm thinking of hitting the woods this weekend only because I'm absolutely hurting to hit the trails.

I was actually only thinking about Saturday, since I'm pretty busy on Sunday. In my mind I was thinking people would come down in the morning, hit the trails like 10am- dark. Hit up the local car wash, maybe grab a bite to eat and head back. It wouldn't necessarily be a "weekend" of riding....just a cool get-together. But if some of you don't want to make the trek that is certainly understandable....not sure if I would drive a few hours just to ride for an afternoon.

Micahdogg
01-20-2009, 10:29 PM
At this point, it's looking unlikely. I went out riding yesterday in 20 degree weather and that is officially tooooooooo cold to ride. I couldn't feel my hands or feet after an hour. This Saturday it's forecasted to be a whopping 21 degrees.
45 degree weather is about perfect. 35 would be cold, but this 25 and below is just brutal. I think the best we could do is just tentatively keep it scheduled incase the weather breaks, but if it's colder than 35 I'm thinking we should nix it.
R-N-D
01-21-2009, 08:01 PM
I agree. Too cold, no fun and it's not looking good. Plus, I'd be out for this weekend after all. Prior comittment that I totally forgot about. Itrike believes I'm just too scared to go out with him. Can't blame him though, so far it's been all talk and no ride. Curt, it'll happen soon, I promise you that.

Any of you Illinois Riders up for a ride this weekend? I'm looking at the 29th (Sunday) and as of now the plan is to go to the Cliffs. Not the best of places to go but they allow trikes and it's not a 2 1/2 hour drive either. Let me know if you are interested in a ride. Wouldn't mind getting a group together to go and maybe take the place over.

RND you've been to the Cliffs? What type of terrain is it?
Rob
R-N-D
05-04-2009, 11:45 PM
Well, it has some nice spots to it but you really don't want to go after the rain. Very rough and difficult to ride in. Not worth your time, it's too much work. It's mostly dirt and some thick clay like areas. It has some decent trails but many areas have huge Rutts from Jeeps and trucks which also make it difficult to ride in. If you can go when it's dry, it makes for a better ride. I can spend a day there easily but be prepared to be worn out. There are some steep hills to climb if you have the right machine, it has a lot of woodsie areas too. There is an area there where it is pretty open as well but somewhat small. If you like some tight trails you will find that too. I like it there because it is only an hour away from me which is probably the closest other than Rocky Glen. But, as we stated here before, they don't allow trikes. Now, if you are going to take a trike to the Cliffs, don't take something like an "R" or an "X" in my opinion. I bring my SX so in case I wreck, it's only an SX. Plus, something that sits up a bit higher is better for the terrain there. Thinking of going there sometime soon? If so, let me know.

Looking at this weekend, possibly. If not, probably going to go to Rocky Glen. However, if we can get enough guys, I'd be down to go there regardless of the weather. Not the best conditions for a trike if it's muddy. What day would work best for you guys?
Curt, sent you an email just a bit ago talking about this very thing. Hit me back. By the way, got the new tire to go along with the other parts for the "X".

Alright gentlemen, it looks as if we are going to hit Rocky Glen (Rockford) on Sunday. It's quite a bit smaller than the Cliffs which will make it easier to leave when I need to leave by. If I hit the Cliffs, I won't want to leave and that would mean the Dog House. Don't really want that. I know it's Mother's Day and I'm probably going to catch some Flack but I'm going to plan on getting there when they open and probably leave around 2ish. Unfortunately, no trikes allowed so the quads will have to do. Anyone interested? Itrike, I know you said it's quite a bit further away but thought that I'd throw it out there anyhow.

I drive by R.G. every day on my way to work and I guess they are doing some work to make it better. I see them in there playing around with bulldozers some days. You will have to let us know how it is.

Yeah, if you go to the site, they are redoing the Island portion of it. Looks to be pretty cool compared to how it was when I was there last. Unfortunately, I'm not going to make it there after all. Plans have changed once again. Can't wait for summer, then I have no immediate plans.

Itrike, you did it again. I certainly do envy you. I can't find enough time in a day to eat and breathe let alone ride. As for changes, what type of changes did they make? Are they good changes, for the better? Or, did they screw up things around there?

I went there on my dirt bike. The office has been redone and they added a shop to it. Also looks like they are selling more parts and gear than before.
They have taken a bulldozer to some of the trails to make a track for the trek racing they are doing (jeep/truck endurance stuff). I'm not sure how I like that but you could ride that course with very little challange.
They have got a new shower house for the people that come for just a day but it isn't quit finnished yet.
I think this sunday there will be a small group there I will be ridding with......if any one can make it.

Hey Northern Illinois Riders, are you going to go to TF? If so, my buddy and I are planning on going there as well. However, we are going to head to the Badlands a few days before to get some good riding in. We will leave Wednesday and ride around at the BL's on W & Th. We will then leave Friday morning for Haspin. We should get there before the Poker Run as we did last year. You are more than welcome to meet us at the BL's if you like. We have an awesome place to stay while we are there. We have some room to if you'd like to stay there as well. It's quite cheap to stay and it's a nice place. Not a Motel or Hotel either. Let me know. I"m extending this message to all the Illinois Riders who are within our area to see if they would like to join in. Just something to think about.

When is Trike Fest?
R-N-D
04-08-2010, 02:28 PM
Trikefest is the 25th through the 27th. So, we would be heading from the Badlands to Trikefest. Many guys will already be at Haspin during that entire week but we like to mix it up a bit and hang out at the Badlands for a few days. You are certainly more than welcome to come and hang out with us.

i will be in the badlands for foolerfest in june. 11-13. first time being there. we shall see.
anyone know if i should bring my paddle tires with me ? is it worth bringing paddle tires to badlands?
thanks

No, I wouldn't bring them. The terrain there is very diverse and there really isn't any real sand. There are areas where paddles can be used but certainly not necessary. Just my opinion. You'll like it there though. Nice place to ride.
