Well I bought this off craigslist for 50$ and figured I walked away with a decent deal. Its a Yamaha 225DR (?) special edition. Its got electric start, reverse, full suspension, both racks, and a hitch. All its missing is a seat and right side tank cover. The guy used a screwdriver as a key and f-cked the key switch up so he parked it 10 years ago. Its had the sparkplug out for 1 season, but now the motor is seized, but I suspect it might just be the pullstarter. Im gonna fix it up and make it a runner but im not sure what I want to do with it yet.....Ive never rode a yamaha trike so I dont know what to expect. Oooo its even got TRAIL PROS!!!!! :banned:

Sorry for the crappy pics but my little tent has like 7 3 wheelers, a dirtbike, 50+ tires, and about half a ton of random parts, so its a little crammed and I had to stand on the Big Red's front rack to get a pic.

That is the rarest model of the 225 Tri Moto's.

I would restore it.

What makes it rare? Black plastics? Also, the 225s didn't all have reverse, right? The "DR" means it's got reverse if I'm not mistaken. How many years was the "DR" available?

Yep thats exactly like my trike. You will love it. Not the fastest, not the slowest. Mine goes up hills great and through mud like a champ.

Heres a few more pics of it, Im gonna try and find some time to work on it this week, but with school I dont know how much Ill get done. Are these plastics able to be fiberglassed, or what would be the best way to repair them? The rear ones have a small chunk missing just above the right side mud flap.

Ok little update, I was right about it being the pull starter, that thing was LOCKED UP good, but after some WD-40 and slight help of channel locks its free again. Motor was fine, spins over perfectly. I took those retarded bars the guy welded on the front rack off, and brought the handlebars back up. Tires are weather cracked from sittin for 10 years but I think ill be able to patch them until I can find some other ones. I havent checked whether or not it has spark, I need to take out the old key switch first. Does anyone know if I unplug the key switch if itll spark of if Ill have to jump the wires?

Ok small update again, IT RUNS!!!! After a severe cleaning of the pull starter and a new recoil spring from a Honda pull starter, I can actually turn the motor over without a rachet now. I stole a spark plug and cap off another machine and cleaned out the carb and she fired right up!! Runs really nice in the short time it does run, although it revs high, but its only on starting fluid. I think the choke cable is stuck open. I also took those ugly chrome bars off the front rack, a few hits with a hammer on each and they fell right off. Now I can just take a dremel and clean up the weld marks left behind and itll look a whole lot better. When I finally get around to it, ill take all the plastic off and clean it real well, and patch the tires so I can roll it around.

Also, does anyone have a wiring diagram for this?? I can unplug the keyswitch and turn the kill switch to OFF or RUN and no matter what nothing kills the spark.

Another update!! It runs and drives under its own power now, I got the choke cable unstuck, and cleaned the crap out of the gas tank. (Looked like oil and antifreeze mixed) and itll fire up within a few pulls and idle near perfect. The kill switch still doesnt work so you gotta pull the plug wire to kill it. ZAP!! Now I just gotta patch the tires because theyll only hold air long enough to make a few runs up and down the driveway.

no antifreeze on them bad boys.. most likly water got down the plug hole.. change the oil and filter, run it for a bit and then do it again. PATCH the tires?.... get rid of them.. sound like that guy messed with the wireing..

Ill' get you the wireing diagram tonight.. If I forget pm me..
