Hey guys the title says it all, i found a not very clean 200X and it has what i think is a 250X motor but i'm not sure. The left side of the head has a rectangular plate on it that says honda, left side chain, right side kick just like it should be but it doesn't look like my old 200x motor, and its a 6 speed according to the case.

So if its a 250x motor is this a common swap? Looks like an old flat tracker with bald trailer/mower tires on the rear very dry rotted, and the fork tubes are slid up into the triples to lower the front a few inches. also has a durablue axle, i didn't have my camera with me for pics...

Sounds pretty cool, TC. I'd like to see it. Are you going to get it?

Oh well then maybe its the original motor, my 84 had a round aluminum plate on the side of the motor, and this one has an aluminum plate on the head thats rectangular and held on by 3 bolts if i recall. I didn't look it over too close but that would be cool if its the stock motor.

I'm gonna try to get it, but i really need another bike like another hole in my head. I'll let you guys know more when i find it out...

83-85 and 86-87 were 2 very different motors.

The 86 200X engine number will be TB05E-6300001~. The TRX250X engines were TE13E-8000001~. Check the number & it will tell you. If it's not either of these, let me know what it is, and I can tell you.

Sounds like you just haven't seen many 86/87 200X motors, look on EBAY an compare some.

I'll try to do some pic hunting, and i will get the #'s off the machine. I asked him if it was a 200 before i saw it and he said it was a 250. Down here i know they have a class that races up to 250cc so it made sense. But maybe he just doesn't know enough about it, claims he has a ton of money in the motor and its all fresh so i will make up my mind once i can ride it. It's a cool machine and all but paying over 500 for a project that needs plastics, most likely 100% of the bearings, forks rebuilt, missing front brakes etc. is too much when a nice one can be found and already done for 1200+, maybe even less if you're patient.
