With the warm weather coming we started one of our many spring projects. Building a 12 X 20 deck on the back of the house with a 2 ft. standout. Got alot finished today. Set the post's, beams, and joists. It should look pretty nice when it's done.
On a sour note..... I had a little mishap with the electric meter on the back of the house. I was laying some old pavers out of the way and while setting the last one I stood up and WHAM, smacked the ole' noggin right into the meter. I fell back and hit the ground and then the blood started. Good thing is I did'nt need stitches. Just a little 1 1/2" gash. The wife knida freaked a little as I stood up and had a face covered in blood. All's good now but man I've got one bugger of a headache.
Here's a few pics of the progress. I'll get some more up when it's done. The third pic is the *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**E dited* of an electric meter that tried to knock my lights out and the fourth is yours truly. Eat your heart out Derrick.
Anywhoo, lets see some pics of custom decks you guys have built. And maybe some related injuries.
I hav'nt even come close to getting this injured on my trike. (knock on wood) Maybe the c.p.s.c. should outlaw electric meters.

Looks good Rick. Sorry about your head, that looks painful. It looks like wearing a helmet may be a little painful for a while too.

Well, now that we finally had a weekend without rain, I had a chance to do a little work on the deck. Just one updated pic. All was going smooth till I ran out of darn deck screws. Oh well, I'm putting a fork in it for today and get some time on it next weekend. Hopefully finish it up so I can enjoy a beer and cook some steaks on it.

We used hot dipped galvanized screws. Also predrilled and measured every hole. My knees are killing me.
Almost forgot a pic of my first deck ornament.

HAHA No zoning where I live. I could build a freakin' 40 X 50 pole barn and not get hassled. (prolly lose a thumb in the process though) BULLSHOT!!!!! Admit it your just too cheap to pay $28 for the permit. I know for fact you need a permit in the state of Ohio. All post must be 42" at min depth of footer or base. Rails must be over 32" in height and the gaps between any opening in the rail must NOT pass a ball larger then a Softball apox 3.5" dia. I bet if you call the local building dept they will agree.
When is the deck warming party. Ill bring the beer and women!!! Seriously. WHen you having us out. Anytime is good for us. Give me a shout

Not in good ole' Marra (pronounced morrow) county Ohio. No zoning means NO ZONING. Come on by and take a look at some of the rat traps around here and you'll see. Who you callin' cheap anyways.? You seen my rides. Cheap my cracka azz.

As soon as the deck is finished, we're planning on having a lil shindig down here. I'll let the OTC posse know in advance. As far as you guys coming down, you know you are always welcome here. Put your butt behind the wheel and drive thilly.

copied directly form their site.
"The Morrow County Zoning Office covers only the Townships that are under the County Zoning Regulations: Bennington, Canaan, Congress, Gilead, harmony, North Bloomfield, and Washington."
I'm in Peru Township. Does not apply here. Yea certain townships have zoning for new builds and housing. Read it all before you go posting up something about a region you don't understand. Nuff said. :welcome:

I stand corrected... Peru has NO ZONING they fall under the County Health Dept. but have trustee's in control of the development of the township. I was going by the fact you live in an Ohio County that has regulations as a whole(as they do). I would have no idea which twp you live in but now I do. Enjoy your deck! It truly must be, buyer beware on the homes in the aera of Peru.

Yes. Deffinately check a home over completely here. I had mine inspected before purchasing which is required for an FHA loan.

I really like how you did the wood on the angle like that Rick...Don't see that real often. Down here most everyone has a deck but its just laid down straight, yours looks REALLY good that way. Nice Job!

Thanks Billy. One of the main reasons we did it like that is because no place up here sells deck boards longer than 16 ft. We needed at least 18-20 ft. to run the boards in one run. We did'nt find this out till we had half the boards down. So with a quick cut of the circular saw and a little direction change. Viola. I hope to get the other side and railing up by next weekend so I don't have to mess with it any more after TF.

Quick update. Other stairs in. Pavers are set. Posts up and some railing. Ran out of screws or I'd still be at it. It'll be done by the 4th for the shindig.

Yes the wife loves my new big deck. To be honest though she liked my small deck. It's not in the size that matters but how it's used. Actually, to be honest though. I can't get the wife off my new deck.shens
