'83 runs great. Shifts great, but the shift throw is huge on this...you have to really get the shift arm down there to shift up (push down to shift up style). Then to downshift the shift arm has to come waaay up...almost easier to do with your hand than to lift with the toe? Is this normal? Or is there something I can adjust?

I've got this trouble with my '84 200s, engine works great, clutch slipped over half throttle, so i replaced the friction plates, and ever since the shift lever has loads of play on it, works ok just takes a lot more movement than it used to. but i cant understand what is different except the friction plates!

My '83 70 doesnt have a big shift throw at all, actually pretty much the same as my '84. Is the shifter slipping on the spline?

could have someone extended the shifter or replaced it with a longer one to make room for a bigger foot?

Its a stock shift lever...Interesting to hear that it's not normal...I bet you have to push it down almost 45 degrees from level to shift up...and lift 45 degrees off level to shift it back down...it has to go a loooong way...may have to open it up and have a look. It's not slipping either.

Doh!...you were right...was slipping badly...splines are about gone. but I managed to tighten it down and now shifts like a dream. <shaking my head>, how often is it the easy stuff?!!!!
