Hi,
I am new to the site, and came across it while looking for stuff for my 3 wheeler.
I am currently restoring a Yamaha YTM 225DX which we have for almost 23 years from new. The bike has been kept in good condition over the years, so I'm just replacing bearings, brakes, etc.
I've got most of the parts I need now, except for a replacement seat cover, looking for a red one.

Does anyone know where I can order a replacement seat cover for the bike and that will also ship to Ireland. Only problem is that I need it in red to look like the orginal seat, also the orginal has YAMAHA (in white writing) on the side, but I don't think I could get this on a new cover.

From the ads that the site has scanned, there doesn't seem to be any bikes that look like the one I have, It has black plastics, gold rims, different tank stickers and a red seat, is this a rare bike or a different model altogether, will post some pics of it from when it was new and what it looks like today.

I think the 1986 YTM225 over here in the states had a red seat. Ebay?

Hi,

I've posted a few pictures of the bike to check the exact model with you guys, Sorry for the bad photos, currently have the wheels off the bike for respraying (Gold) as original and to put on new tyres.

I'l try to get some photos of when it was new and post them.

What can I do to improve the engine without going to any major expense, would changing oil, gear oil, new spark plug and cleaning the carb be enough, air filter looks okay, but then again it is 20 something years old!

The Rear rack is a custom fit from another atv, cant remember which one. I think I'll take it off when finished.

What can I do to remove tiny scratches on the rear fender, they're not too bad, but I'll like to get rid off them if possible, and also can the colour be improved without having to paint the fender.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Thats a 1986 225DR. The R in DR stands for reverse. That is a rare model.

Thats a nice trike. Exactly like mine. Same color and everything. I also need a seat cover.

Didn't know that it was a 225DR,

I've never seen another bike like this one anywhere else, so i'd say it's a rare enough bike, in Ireland anyways!

What's the best tyre to get for this bike for a bit of off roading, had Kenda Scorpion 22x11x8, but they are not great in the mud.

Do you have the oem rear skidplate?

What does the OEM stand for?

The one I have at present needs repaired, trying a few e bay sellers at the minute to see if they will ship to Ireland.

Is it possible to buy a new one?

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Basically he asked whether or not you still had the original skidplate from the factory. ;) I dont think i do on mine. mine is a 225dx tho so maybe its different??

as far as the scratches go i used fine sand paper to get them out of my 225 then used rubbing compound and a buffer to bring back the shine it made my black plastic look like new
