My buddy has a 1989 rm 250. It had a top end rebuild. Now it wont start. it has lots of spark. They said you can kick i over on a cold day and it will offer and make a few pops. on a hot day it wont even offer.I dont anything about the bike but someone told them it may be the oil pump or something. What could this be.. Any info even a stab at it would be gratly apprecated. Thanks

Well if it has compression and spark then it's something fuel related.
Probably a lack of fuel, so the first thing I'd do is clean the carb, and petcock.
After that I'd look to make sure float level is set properly and go from there.
I'd check the reeds also.

check the plug after trying to start it if its dry dump a little fuel down the spark plug hole and try again if it starts for a second then its a fuel problem.
sounds like a fuel problem to me. i have the same exact bike...they haul a**

An RM is a premix only machine, so there wouldn't be any oil pump issues. I'll go with what the others said. Check everything between the air cleaner and the reeds, and make sure you don't have any air leaks anywhere.

I bought the bike after. I don't just want this to run but I want it scream so I got all new gas lines radiator hoses and I redid the wiring. Hopefully the end of the next week or two i'll be able to get the motor bored and new piston and rings ordered. Also I got the carb rebuilt. The bottom end is fine so that should probably cover evrything.

Imo, i would do the bottem end, its only an extra 300$, iv seen alot of "fine" bottem ends blow up in 3 hrs after a new top, isnt the 89 nikisil coated...?
