I still have not recieved my piston. Been almost 2 months:twisted:
But along time ago I broke both my kick starts. One was welded solid(not to the shaft) And the other was welded 3 times saying it wont break. It did. I told him not to weld it for a honda. But for a high powered kawasaki.
He kept welding it for a honda and kept breaking.
Anyway. I know kawasaki used the same kick start in all tecates, as well as the 4 wheeled kind and the kx. I am taking it that from 1983 kx to 1990 kx250/500 will work? What about the 125?

Dirt bike kickers are longer, and will cause problems in the kick tunnel on the Tecate.

Problems? There is already problems lol. What about the knuckle? Is that the same?

Later kx models have aluminum kickers and they are too long to run with fenders. You can still get the right one for tecate but I think it's over $100 new.

So the tecate kick start is a special part for the tecate?

Here's a pic of my 86 KX250 with the longer aluminum kickstart. Works great. You would probably have to trim the Tecate plastic to use it since it is longer. I agree the kickstart to kxt 84-87 and kxf 87-88 all look very similar and are most likely the same, but I do not know for sure.

I called my Local Kawasaki shop and they said the 85 only cost 115$ cnd. But I wonder which kick start will be stronger. I have used a tecate 4 kick and worked great. Just trying to widen parts avalability. I like the aluminum kicker.

I run an aluminum kx kicker and have no problems. you just have to adjust the way you kick a little bit

What kicker are you using?

So all my kick starters are broke. I need to find another kicker for my kx and tecate. Any one know which ones will fit or can be modded?

Looks a little long though like all dirt bike kickers. But it's not aluminum.

I have had no issues with tecate kickers.. they dont break unless they are worn out and sloppy

I've never had an issue with Tecate kickers either. They're still pretty cheap and obtainable.

I just dont see how these things would break.. they are steel.. My guess is either from a very high compression big-bore, a sloppy or junk kicker to begin with, or improper ignition timing... My 250 cranks 245psi and I can kick a bike as good as anyone else.. never had problem on a tecate. Broke one on a CR500 and one on a KTM 380.. both were sloppy

I've never broken one myself, but I've had 2 that came in a parts lot with a basket case Tecate that were broken. Both were broken at the swivel-pin joint. Both breakages were at the point where the little steel ball rests/rides.

I Have broke 2 at the same spot right at the swivel-pin joint.they were not sloppy.I think it may have been from cold start are something because they both were on the first kick.I turned the gas on let it set for a few seconds kicked 1 time snap, it started .

The 85 I bought had a broken kickstart. It wasn't broken by me. I have however lost one at Rasor road. :D

Great. So I am not the only one. Anyone ever weld one up that actually held up?

No, I've never reapaired one, but just thinking about this had me going through my parts room where I found an extra bottom half(swivel pin part) with good splines laying in a pile of trash. Gonna keep that after reading this.

Plus, today I happened upon a treasure trove of Tecate parts......(2) complete MotoPlat ignitions, a Bill's{which a friend of mine bought for near nothing} & a chromed DG(which I traded my stock pipe even for) pipe, KX cylinders, ported KXT cylinders, etc..much, much more etc.....) 25 minutes from me
and I've added kickstart levers to my collection list.

When I go back over there tomorrow, I'll see how many he has and what he'd take for 2 or 3 and get back to you about one.

MAJOR UPDATE
Just recieved my 2 brand new kick starters for the kx and Tecate.
Well do they ever look good and shiney. 100$ and I thought I was in the clear. Put my kicker on the bike and kicked it over. It felt like I was low on compression. Kicked it again and it started right up. My idle was up too high so I shut it down to turn the idle down. And I noticed the ball bearing was not catching. Turns out I bent the common spot but the actual arm was bending also. These are the emgio or something brand. They are on ebay right now.
Anyways here are some pics. 200psi with ignition right on. Never had this problem awhile ago.

See the bent one vs brand new. Wait till I take a pic of the small piece without the arm.:wondering :wondering :wondering

Can you put the emgo splined portion on the Tecate kick lever?

I am trying to buy one of those for $10 to have as a spare. Guess they soft and cheap.

The one that came on my T3 broke shortly after I got it in the same spot that yours did, the nub that is splined to the shaft. I replaced the nub and its been OK since. I have two T3 bottom ends in my attic, one has the kicker welded to the "out" position, the other has a broken kicker. Luckily when mine broke I was able to order just the nub and re-use my old arm. I'm not surprised that the emgo one bent. They sell cheap, made in China stuff if I remember right.

Yeah. Also I thought it would be better setup due to the lack of the o ring grove on the "nub". Also the nub is bent so bad the ball bearing is siezed in there.
So timming is almost right on and compression is only up 15 pounds from service limit. I want to weld up my old kx one but would rather find another nub. Any ideas? Im starting to get sick of this bike.lol
