*EDIT A couple posts down are some pics, i know the water pump is an issue on these what all do i need to rebuild that before i try to fire this thing? Anything else that i should replace before hand or check the condition of it? I really dont know much about these but i have a couple wrenches and a manual so i'm sure i can figure things out pretty easily.*
Well i may have a lot of questions here in the very near future, but did all of the 85.5 red frame machines come with the 6 speed? It really doesn't matter to me i want an 85.5. Does this one look like its a true later one? I dont really know enough about them to tell a difference. And i only have these small pics to go off of right now. The guy said it basically needs a good going over and everything checked out in one form or another, TC...

I thought the real 85.5's had the same spec as the 85's meaning they would have a 5 speed.

The 85.5's had a 5 speed. They were identical to the 85 except for the black and red colors. The 86 was the one with the 6 speed.
The 85 and 85.5 had forks that were the same diameter as your 350x.The 86 had fork diameter that was the same as the waterpumper 250r's.
Also the 86 frame had a coolant bottle strapped on the down tube near the left foot peg.
The 85.5 and 85 tri-z had the coolant bottle under the seat in front of the gas tank.
It looks like a true 85.5 to me,but your pics are too small.

Ok well i got some better pics, those last ones were from a phone. But anyway as near as i can tell after my driveway test its a 5 speed. All in all nothing is really together but the suspension is all tight and rolling. The motor has enough compression to hold the bike still when i try to push it in gear. No kicker but the shaft/splines are in great shape. DG full exhaust needs some cleaning but its not all busted up or smashed (again not bolted on) all of the fuel system is there, brakes are complete. New aftermarket grab bar, and the other coolant system parts are in a box. The clutch lever feels like it should. I dont know all in all its not too bad, if the motor is wasted for some reason i'm 150% sure i can part it for the money i paid, and he delivered it to me.
I was confused about the 85's i thought the 85.5 were the same as the 86s thats why i was wondering about the tranny, so this is basically a 100% 85 compatable machine its just a different color? Good deal i'll look at it more later, but it looks like the threads on the swinger pivot bolt are smashed so that will need to be looked at early on in the project. Well anyway my father is coming down to see the latest addition to the family but maybe later this evening i can look it over better and start trying to figure out what i should replace before trying to get it running, TC...
