To make a long story short, a buddy of mine somehow ran his 400ex really low on oil and now it has no compression but the motor still spun freely. He took it to the dealership to be fixed and now they said the entire engine is junk and they want to install a 3000$+ new engine in it. If it was run too low on oil, it doesn't seem to me like the entire thing would be junk. Is there any hope in trying to revive this motor? Either way I think my buddy needs to get it out of the shop its in. Worst comes to worst, I think he needs to spend around a grand on a used ebay motor and I can help him install it.

so what do you guys think about the blown motor that spins freely? I want to think that if the cam is tight, all it will need is a bore and a piston and rings.

If it was run that low on oil then most of the bearings and oil pump are probably trashed. Part that engine and get a decent low hour one from ebay.

if your going to spend a grand on a used motor why not throw a grand into this motor and have a fresh ''new'' motor?

check the head/cam area, crank, top end, and oil pump out REAL close
