My cousin is a big metallica Junkie (Has all of the CDs except for the new one) I've heard a couple of songs off of the new one and really like them. Especially St. Anger and Frantic. Their not quite as fine tuned and polished as songs like Master of Puppets, Fixxxer, ect, but their still very good. He however, doesn't really care for them :p

St. Anger rules! Metallica rules! People have to realize with every album they put out it will be different from the last. They do nothing twice and that is why they are still number #1 after 22 years of being together. Bands that put out the same repetitive albums with songs structured the same way will fade away. Metallica does something different and new each time and that is why they still sell records and lots of em. Metallica Forever!!!

Every song that Metallica made was different from any other song of theirs...You can't say that about most bands out there today. Long Live Metallica. http://www.3wheeler.org/vb/images/smilies/headbang.gif

Metallica hasn't "been together" for 20 yrs, they've broke up and gotten back together and now they have a different bassist, they're not the same band. I like the old Metallica better, the new Metallica is all about money. This is probably gonna be like another Load/Reload deal which will just break the band up again. Don't get me wrong I do like Metallica, just not much of the new.

The new CD isn't anywhere Metallica level of quality or skill, and the new bassist is a tool box. They want to attract a new crowd and make more money good for them. I won't be buying it, I feel after S&M things just went down hill...

Good to see somebody agrees with me(Hemi).

I totally agree with hemi here. The new album sounds like metallica, but there is no refinement there. The chords are there, the lyrics are (kinda) there, the bass is a little flimsy...but they just didnt refine it at all. It sounds like they threw together a few songs real quick and slammed the album out the door. It's not bad, but it is nowhere near the standards metallica has set for themselves. The new bassist isnt bad really, but he fits kind of oddly with metallica. If they refined the album enough it probably would have sounded pretty good.

i totally agree with Metallica being all about money, i mean whats the crap with Lars sueing their fans all because of napster? were they afraid people would quit buying their albums? and start downloading 100% of their music off the internet? yes SOME people would, but lets face it, Metallica has made enough money off of 1 cd to live the rest of their lives. Me personally am a metallica fan, old metallica though, the long hair crazed maniacs that didnt wear make up, like in the video until it sleeps. Lars IS NOT a good drummer, Newsted SUCKS at bass, James and Kirk are awesome musicians though. i still think they should have hired Les Claypool, now hes one kick trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro bassist!!! :Beerchug

Lars is NOT a good drummer???? What the &%&$* are you talking about?
I've been playing the drums for years and years and still can't play half of his songs from the older albums...which are easier than the now ones. He can do a roll with one hand. And, Yes, their new bass player is a nut-case. :?

hes a decent drummer, i dont want to make any enemies from this post, but MY OPINION of a good drummer is, Neal peart from rush, tim herb alexander (ex- drummer from primus), Brain ( new drummer for primus), john bonnom (led zepplin), Vinnie Paul (pantera) a lot of others just cant think right off hand.lol. im pretty opinionated when it comes to music. i play bass, les claypool/flea style, not as good as them but catching up. lol.

Not quite. there has never been a time they broke up. I dont know where you picked up that crap. They formed in 1981 and that is it. Metallica has had 4 bassists over time starting with Ron McGovney in the Pre- Kill em all days, Cliff Burton, Jason Newsted, now Rob. Metallica has been around 22 yrs so there you have it. Your not gonna get the old Metallica back, so forget it. I am content with what they are doing and many people are. Each album will always be different and dont sit at home crossing your fingers and toes hoping for anothe Master of Puppets cause theyve been there done that.

It has been all downhill since ...and Justice for All. They are so lame now and just waste their talent with this top 40 pop crap they play now. Puppets was a culmination of the best of Metallica and Justice followed up nicely, but the new stuff, oh please. Well atleast Slayer hasn't wimped out yet. Even Megadeth is still heavier than Metallica. That is pathetic!

I guess some would call it progress, I call it wimping the F*$k out! :Pimp :bounce

I love the fact none of you die-hard Metallica fans are denying the fact that Metallica is all about the money! Godsmack decided not to do Summer Sanitarium with Metallica because James told Sully that yes, it was all about the money. Sully thought that was f'd up, and so do I.

I remember reading some comments from a Metallica band member, I don't remember who, but it gos like this, to some effect. "We've been together since the 70s, we're the best there is, was, and ever will be. nobody can touch us, period we are the best." They f'in wish. The new Metallica is getting weaker, in my opinion, they were much better in the olden days, now they're just trying to blend in and doing a sad job.

Money? Whats wrong with money? I would like to have some, don't you??

Metallica has stayed about the same to me...mabey a little better. Ya see...I care about the music, not about the musicians so much. I wouldn't care if they wore pink tights, I'd still like their music.

i have to aggree with goko and hemi, there all about money and juctice 4 all rocked after that they cut their hair and started to wear makeup, glam look? i dont know, at least kirk is growing his hair back. i"ve been a bass player in my band 4 a few years now, flea, les claypool, bootsy collins, geddy lee, just a few i can play. but their bassist robert is an awesome bassist, slap, funk, punk, thrash all molded into 1. he dont fit metallica, i think he joined because suicidal tendencies isnt around anymore, and he needed to get caught up on bills. but sometimes when we play out we dont care if we get paid or not, were all in 4 the fun, and reaction of the audiance, thats what motivates us to keep practicing and playing out.

you guys just dont know talent. these guys can out play any new band out there. i would rather listen to welcome home sanitarium then any new song out there today. that and the thing that should not be. badazzzz songs. lyrics are killer guitar is killer everything is killer. for you guys that think jason was a biothch your wrong. thgose guys picked on him continuosly. i mean no one wants to be picked on contionuosly. i love metallica and jason was the best thing to ever happen to them.

I saw Metallica Live during Master of Puppets tour and then for ...and justice for all tour. my opinion... after Cliff died everything became mellow and more about money. nothing against Jason but Cliff was such a powerfull influence on Lars and James that they moved to where he was. Cliff did not "join" Metallica Metallica joined Cliff. :Beerchug i'm not trying to take anything away from them because their still a great band and one of my favorite's but like all things change so did they. welcome to the lastest version of Metallica is it the same? no, but you can't sell the same songs for 20 + years and if they picked on Jason he deserved it. it was a sign of respect. Metallica will always be as long as there is Lars and James they are the main force.

I just thought I'd add that I've probably listened to "Frantic" off of the new CD about 50 or more times, and I've really grown to like it. Everytime I've heard it I've started jamming to it. It does take a while to get use to it, but its a cool song. I think the rest of the CD is kinda like that too

Frantic is a great song...as is all of them on the CD. Earlier today, My sunglasses vibrated off my desk from the bass 'cause I was playing it so loud. I can't get enough of it. Does anyone also have their "LIVE trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro: BINGE & PURGE" album?? It has 3 CD's and 2 DVD's in a tannish case.

metallica is one of the best bands out there, and my favorite, with koRn being my second best. metallica, yes they have changed, but st. anger is heavier sounding and in some parts a bit faster. frantic is also a kick ass song. and their new bassist is also kick ass. lars IS the best drummer that ive ever heard.
