I've got to admit this made me smile:) . I was trawling through the CSPC documents with regard to banning the sale of new 3 wheeled Atv's in the U.S. when I came across a bit that said an Atv had a life of about 9 years.
Anyone here got a 3wheel Atv thats less than 9 years old? No?:wondering Didn't think so.:naughty:
What do the CSPC do to Atv's that makes them last for less than 9 years:twisted: ? And why '9' years? It's such an odd number. Why not 10?
If I were a cynical type I'd suggest it was written in a style designed purely to confuse:naughty: .

I dont see why they would say that because i still see alot of mid 1990s quads around and all the 3 wheelers that are owned by members of this board prove that the theory is wrong. Unless they're talking about those low quality chinese import quads but i doubt it.

On the other hand think of how many ATV's were produced and are not around because they were either wrecked, crushed, parted, or rusted away to nothing. Compared to how many were sold new i'd say that a life expectancy of 9 years is a pretty liberal number, especially if thats something from 20 years ago. The products have come along way since then with more reliable motors and wiring systems, which make them last longer theoretically. My cousin bought a new name brand 4 wheeler 4 years ago and i dont think it even runs now (operator neglect more so than product failure), TC...

My banshee is 100% stock and it's an 87 ;).
As for reliability, while the wiring may be more reliable, I have to disagree with the mechanical stuff, everything is built to such low-quality standards now-a-days it's hard to imagine anything being reliable anymore.

agreed !!! the ignition systems and so on are allot better but the danm moving parts seem to ware out faster and faster. i knew a guy that his brother had a new raptor 700 and it lasted him 6 months before the tranny locked up on him. he doesnt beat on his machines either. he rides hard but he doesnt over rev or anything like that. but needless to say ....he went back to the dealer and told em to keep it.

The document I was reading was dated 2007. It mentioned the the big names no longer making them, and appeared to be aimed at new 'trike' atv's and threeweeled golfcarts. If you could translate the leagaleaze into english and quantify some of the very peculiar statistics then it may have made it almost readable, but when it gets into '% per head cost of injury from a quad accident compared to % per head cost of injury to trike accident' you've really got to wonder what they are, or were, trying to prove.
