As far as I know they are interchangeable, but I only have an '85 model. Hopefully Hadar (Justin) will chime in here soon, he has both models and would know for sure.

I dont know about the forks for sure but wouldn't the 84 be lacking the caliper mounting holes for the 85's disc brakes?? Again i honestly dont know but that came to mind...

The only interchangeable parts are the tubes. If you have disk brakes, it is 85. Drums are 84. The spring pacs, damper rod, and shim assembly are different between years. I know 85 forks can be made to work very well, even though they are on the small side and only have a touch over 8" of travel. 84 setups can be had for small cash. But... the 85 setup sometimes brings hefty $$$$$ and are much more desireable. But finding a good 85 setup can sometimes be tough. 85's were not as common as 84 t-3's due to the intro of the 85 tri-z, and the all new liquid R.

84-drum brake setup, theres a tab on the left fork that holds the drum in place, 85- disc brakes, 2 mounting tabs on backside of the left fork for the caliper to mount to and two totally different hubs for both years as well. the guts are different too. i have aset of 84 forks complete with the tripples if yah need them, not doing much but collecting dust in my garage. pm me if interested in them.

You guys are right, different hubs - no caliper mount on 84. I like both the 84 and 85 brake systems but the 85 is more desirable.

Well Im building the bike from scratch, or piece by piece. I want the 85 set up. I have the 85 hub triple clamps and rotor. I just was'nt sure if the fork tubes where the same. I keep seeing 84 set-ups, but didnt want to spend the loot, and it not work out. Thanks guys for the info, Im off to find an 85 set-up.
WTB 85 fork tubes, hit me up. ( I know, I know classifieds)
Thanks Again
John
