Well i got it. I still cant believe the guy took an old ice auger for it..

The Bad: Suspension is shot, Smokes like hell, Tires are shot, and Clutch is pretty jerky.
The Good: Starts first kick, Has a 36mm Mikuni!!, Some kind of custom intake i think, and has Like 3 inch wheel spacers.

I have to say when i got it into 3rd this thing pulls VERY hard. Alot harder than my 400. But its very easy to kill starting off...

Very nice. Damn good price kinda like feed a guy a fish show a guy how to dig a hole to fish.....
Actually I don't really know what an ice auger is worth.
Good luck with that looks like it has much potential.
I just missed out on this weeks lead, a nice little 125m.
Can't win em all (Nor can I afford to lol)

Ah that auger was probably worth 50 bucks at most, it hasnt been ran in probably 10 years till now, all i did was clean it up and paint it. Well i already snapped off the grab bar doing wheelies...it was ugly anyway. I really want to get working on this thing but i have a Snowmobile rebuild im doing right now thats taking pretty much the entire garage..

Nice for the price! But 2 strokes are supposed to smoke!

I know theyre supposed to smoke, but not as bad as this one, this leaves a cloud you cant even see through, i can make smoke-rings come out by just popping the throttle lol

Check and see if your using any tranny oil could be the main crank seals are bad or the center case gasket is leaking or just check your mix ratio!

Well it smells like 2 stroke very strong so i dont think its burning tranny oil...it might be the mix i havent changed the gas from the previous owner but the gas doesnt seem very dark like theres too much oil in it. And the thing runs perfect, first kick start, and its got one mean powerband.

I would like to buy that front tire from you.

Just the tire? I dont think you'd want it. Its all cracked and dry rotted. Its almost bald also.

Very nice for the price. Could just be the jetting is off from having the non-stock carb on there. Good luck with her. :beer

That front sproket is tiny. Or is it just me?

Much nicer looking than my 81R. I love the high air flow front fender to keep it cool.

Very custom intake too.

The grabby clutch could be caused my a few things:low on fluid, basket nut is loose, fibers/steels are warped, the clutch is close to new.

The 3rd gear power is something you learn to love about this bike. I know with mine, i love 3rd. Although i also love the amount of torque it has on the low end for a 2 stroke.

The clutch actually feels very crappy, its hard to pull in and it almost feels like a brake.(I know which ones the clutch and brake lol)

It doesnt have very much lowend torque,But when i open it up, this thing is moving. Im guessing that is because of that oversize mikuni. Oh and the plug was black and wet so im guessing its running pretty rich.

It runs kind of irratic on the low end, sometimes ill hit it and the front end will come up right away and other times it will just act like its sputtering.

AND it has those custom rubber mudflaps bolted to the fenders to compensate for the wheelspacers haha

I plan on stripping it down and painting it, ill extend the swingarm(the wheelbase it way to short for me) get some new tires, maybe do the front end swap if i find a 200x front end for a good price, and i might get/make a new muffler cus the stock one has alot of holes..

Well i decided to check the tranny oil, it was far from oil lol...mix of old gas and crap. That was probably why it smoked so much...What type of oil should i put in the tranny? thanks

Yeah sounds like your crank seal is out the one on the clutch side!

I took it on a little voyage today, my dad rode the 400 yami, it was smoking bad the hole way, but man was it going. It dont do very well on pavement but it freakin rips on dirt. Not to mention it totally smokes the 400 in acceleration. My dad would be far in front of me and id hammer the throttle and wheelie on past :D Its the only thing i have that i gotta lean forward to keep the front end down in all gears :naughty:

Even though its pretty uncontrolable, i love it already :w00t:

Heres a short vid of it running (i took it with my phone so crappy quality)

id love a bike like that but aint got the money for a 250R atm and they are a harder to find then your average honda big red around here. Do they have reverse?

Yamatrike400
06-27-2008, 07:24 PM
No they dont have reverse. But i can live with it, it really aint that heavy.

So the 250R is pretty much a CR250 engine with a forward kick starter?

I dont know alot about these 2 stroke trikes

Yamatrike400

^ i believe it is. I also pulled the engine and checked the seal, it looks to be in perfect condition, everything looks brand new.

what size are them rear tires, they look huge

It could be smoking alot because the 2stroke oil and the gas started to separate so your sucking up all the oil, which could also be way it runs crappy sometimes. I would drain it out and put fresh in.

The tires are 22's, and i know, they do look very big lol. And i did put a fresh mix in (40:1) and it still smoked bad. I checked the crank seal and its in perfect condition. Im really not sure what else it could be besides the case gasket. Is there an easy way to check it?
