Ive decided to just do a topend rebuild on my tecate, im working on getting the cylinder re-plated. As for the head im wondering how much I can shave from it? Last I checked compression was around 190. Is it possible the head has already been shaved? Also can anyone point me in the direction for maybe lighting up my flywheel. And what exactly are the benifits with doing this? Thanks in advance

Unless you want to run race gas, Don't take anything off your head. 86 T3's have ample compression with new piston and rings.
I had to resleeve mine (proir to aftermarket nicasil was about) and due to the manufacturing process a poofteenth, couple of thou, was taken off the barrel. Needless to say i need octane booster everytime I ride otherwise it detonates its little head off.
Chuck the carby for a better quality one, keep the compression sane, fit a new piston and rings. If its running right it will have heaps of go, trust me.

I wouldn't shave it.. unless you planned on having the dome re-cut as the squish band will become smaller in diameter than the bore..

Guess ill pass on the head shaving, just thought it would be an easy mod to go ahead and do.. If I had around 190 compression, now after rebuilding the topend, could I run a little higher octane? I was told so when I had it at the shop, it would be better for it..
Any thoughts on the flywheel? Thanks

Based on my fading memory I believe you can easily bump up the compression by using the head gasket from the KX.

About the flywheel, is there any way to tell besides removing it, if I have a Ricky Stator setup? It looks fairly new. The ricky flywheel's are lighter than the stock if im correct...? And I will not be interested no more in having it shaved. If it is a stock flywheel, I do want it lightened..

Some gasket companys only offer one gasket set for both KX's and KXT's... Cometic or OEM Kawasaki would be your best bet for getting a thin gasket as they still show both machines as using different part #'s
EDIT: If you happen to get a KX gasket for your machine you should measure the two gaskets and let us know the difference in thickness. Thanks

I will be getting the kx gasket, I still got to rebuild suspension before fully getting to the motor though but wont be long.
As for the flywheel, ive decided to lighten it up. Now, how much should I have shaved??
