I have never done street, but have done lots on a CRF450, Would a R6 be too outrageous or would it be an okay starter?
Biggest bike ive been on was a Cr500...man I miss that monster!

Seing that you've had some experience with a machine that has more power than god!,, an R6 wouldn't be a bad starter bike. Personally, I like touring style bikes( i have a HD low rider) If this is you're first street bike, just get to know what it's capable of power wise. It's easy to get over your head on a machine like that, what I'm trying to say is RESPECT all aspects of what it's capable of and you'll be fine

Yeah thats what my friend was telling me. I was able to ride his R1 today and I was in awe of its power and stability. Im gonna try an R6 tomorrow at the dealer, so if I like it, I may be getting an 07 R6 =)

You should test drive all the makes and models of those crotch rockets in that cc range.. You never know, you might like a different make other than a yammy.. just a thought

Took your advice and also did a Honda CBR600.... wow, the bike felt underpowered to the R6, but the ride and handling was worth it! I'll try out more when I get another day off, haha.

I havent really been keeping up with the jap bikes lately but, from what i understand, the Kawasaki Ninja 636 is pretty potent. Like I said test all if you can, and dont go buying the first one you come across, you might regret it in the long run. good luck

Pretty much all super sport 600's are the same, it comes down to which is more aesthetically pleasing, and what feels best to you.
I have the slowest sport 600 to date i believe(99 katana) but i dont think i'd ever give it up for any of my buddies 600rr, f4i, gsxr, etc. Super sports are so unbelievably uncomfortable. I can ride all day on my kat, my buddies are usually done in about an hour maybe 2, from back or wrist pain.
Throw a leg over every one you can find, rank what your favorites are, find which is cheapest.

i have wanted to get myself a rocket for quite sometime now, and finally in early may i did. i got me a used one to start out on, and got a great deal at that. got myself an 01 r6 that had only 4100 miles on it. i figured i would start out on something used, something i could pay cash for all up front, so that way if i did wreck it i wouldnt still be in debt to pay off the bike. when i picked it up from the guy, it was the very first time i had been on a rocket, and let me tell you, didnt take long at all to get the feel of it and get used to it. come next year i will be trading this one in and getting myself either an 08 or 09 ninja zx6r. i like the 600cc bikes, they have enough power to get me where i want to go, and get there fast if i feel like opening it up some. i rode all 4 of the big fours 600's. the ninja i liked the best. each person has their preferences though. just take it slow at first till you get used to it, thats all.

try the triumph Daytona 675, which 600 also? the new 600rr's where suppose to be the poop. I dont think you will have any problom starting on a 600 ethier, i went from my ktm 620 to a triumph 675 and honestly it was a great choice, just dont be stupid is all. And just get the bike that feels best to you. I tried the 06 kawi zx6r and knew i hated it right when i sat on it, i ended up with a triumph lol. I always liked to have a diffrent bike than most, the 3cyl has a hell of a diffrent sound and makes power lower in the rpms that the 4's
Well, to be honest, the 600 is a REAL potent bike i find, a 1000 is easier to ride, Me myself i like hot rod cruisers, Say the Victory, But if you want the best Crotch rocket to work on, Kawi all the way,,,top of the class....

Buy a new Vmax, apparently they're rumored at something like 220-240 hp.
But really, Yamaha has the new RS and the R6S. The S model is similar to the '01 style R6 models, with a slightly more comfotable ride position then the new R6, but doesn't look quite as bad-ass.
