I finished installing my piston today and lapped the valves. I'm putting everything back together but I'm having trouble lining the timing mark up with the hole. I got it close but it seems just a smidge towards the front of the hole instead of being right in the center. I've been around about 20 times and it never lines up right in the center. Do I have it right when it's just a tad to the front of the hole or is something else wrong? Any help is much appreciated as I would like to get this thing back in the frame tomorrow. :wondering :wondering

maybe your a few teeth off on the camchain.

Is the cam chain adjuster released? With the cam chain adjuster not pressed up against the cam chain like it should be the timing mark on the sprocket will be slightly to the left of the fixed mark (crank lined up to the TDC mark).

I got it. Thanks all. We'll see if she starts tomorrow.

Are you using the flywheel hole by itself? or the cam alignment hole too? There are 2 "TDC's" on a 4 stroke but one is 180 degrees away from where you want to be..... The cap underneath the valve cover shows the pointer which tells you if the cam is on it's "relaxed" or "firing" stroke.

I hadn't installed the cam yet and I was going by the manual which told me to find TDC of the compression stroke before installing it BUT... there is no designated compression or firing stroke before the cam is installed so I just used the flywheel hole and installed it from there. Once it was installed the pointer pointed up, the "t" matched up in the hole and the hash marks were parallel with the head. I adjusted the valves and closed her up.

I put her back in the frame today but a huge storm came before I could bolt it in and fire it up. The axle still didn't come today so I wasn't too worried about it. Hopefully tomorrow though. Thanks for all the help DC.
