This may sound like a stupid thread to some but Ive never done it before and dont wanna mess it up. My pull start rope broke and a mechanic at a lawnmower shop said he could fix it if i unbolt the housing and bring in the starter. I was wondering will a hole heap of crap come flying out or loose its place if i take it out myself and is it easy to put the starter back on?

If just the rope broke, you can remove the bolts that mount it, and nothing will fly out. They're not hard to rewind, but if he'll do it for a few bucks, let him. The recoil pulley is held on by a clip, so it's self contained.

Thanks for that. He said he would charge like $15-20 but he said they're quite busy at the moment and I want it done asap. Would it be easy for me to replace it myself and get it right the first time?
