Hello,

I have found your site to be very informative. I am fairly mechanically minded, but more with the 8 cylinder types of motors. I have been put in place of getting my father-in-law's 84 200es up and running after sitting for more than 4 years.

I got it running, but the idle speed screw has to be in all the way in order to get it to idle and when I do that, it leaks gas like crazy. Any ideas and help would be appreciated. maybe some pics of where the fuel lines go, maybe they are mixed up?

Thanks in advance
Derek

Welcome to 3WW!

First off, I would order a carb rebuild kit, so then you will know all the parts in the carb are good. Those float needles dry up over time and that is probably why your leaking gas. Is the air filter good and clean? If not, the UNI filters are cheap and a very good filter, easy to clean and re-use for years of wear. Remember to run an in-line fuel filter, the rust wrecks the carb over time. New plug is a good idea too, you probably already did that. www.dratv.com is a great site among others that are good for parts, good prices and great shipping. Got any pics?

Prepare to be addicted here!

I agree definitely rebuild the carb. At least open it and clean it out really well. See if that helps. It sounds like your idle jet is clogged and needle valve either has trash keeping it from closing or is dry rotted. Good luck!

Thanks for your input so far. I will be taking off the carb tomorrow night and tearing into it. I hope to get it up and running to use on our commercial electrical job for a parts runner.
