dont know where too start with the lights but they just stop working last week and i want to do some night running when i get to NH in two weeks....next is it will not start unless she is warmed up and to get it too that point i have to use starter fluid. once it there(warmed) she runs awesome....whent thru the carb like 10 times checked the stock reeds and there fine..the fuel pump is fine because i guess she doesnt skip a beat when i run the crap out of her...and i new top end......so tell me what you think....

ok lights on a z are simple. forget about the tail light for now
hows your wiring harness?
basically, the yellow/red wire from the stator plugs into the headlight switch and the blue wire plugs in there too, thats the regulator. AS long as you have the switch hooked up and grounded, you should be set.
I had a problem where the wire harness got pinched in the steering stops and sheared a few wires.
Your lighting coil could have *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* the bed. Your regulator could have *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* the bed and blew both light bulbs.
Since both are out, id say the pigtails from the bulb to the headlight switch are ok, but inspect them anyways.
As for the hard starting...
Dont you have that crazy big cylinder sleeve? Is your motor broken in? Id do a compression test cold and see where its at...160 + would be good in my opinion.
I dont think it would be a spark issue cause it runs fine when warm.
Fuel issues should never be overlooked in a z. Do you have a spare fuel pump? How long inbetween starts is it when it wont fire up when cold? Is it overnight or every few weeks?

Slothminx drew this up a while back. Should help you on the wiring issues.

Maybe your stator is just taking a crap in general. Ricky Stator can fix that right up for you. Fresh. Its about $125 bucks well spent. Takes your stator from 55w output to 85w output. I would be willing to bet. Take the side cover off. Check for water in there. Happens alot to the Z. If you need a flywheel puller. Check with Motion Pro. They supply the best ones! Hope you get her fixed!

yeah DO NOT buy the ones on ebay, get the motion pro pullers.
I have a spare stator if you want to swap it out sometime and see how it goes...id need it back though, its a great spare...
when i said the big sleeve...didnt you have a cylinder with a huge ass sleeve thickness wise? but did you get rid of that one???
id definately check the cold compression when you have a chance
