check all your wire connections I have had 2 of these do the same thing and it was a bad connection. also if the starter won't work check the reverse/neutral wire on the bottom of the motor under the kicker

You have to check for spark....have you done that yet?

down on the engine case on the kicker sid ethere is 2 wires that connect to the motor behind a small guard down along the frame rail make shure thie rboth have good conections if the neutral safety switch is not conected it willnot get any spark check and double check this conection its the only thign that has made my sx and big reds stop int he past.

Test your coil with a ohmmeter first, those things (coils) are not that cheap and I'm always worried about what you wind up with from e-bay. Not sure what the readings are suppose to be on that one, somebody with a manual can probably chime in. Also check that the spark plug cap is well seated and twisted into the plug wire, they sometimes work loose.
Check all the wires starting at the alternator wires with a voltmeter and work you're way out from there, testing at each wire termination/connector.
Coils are hard things to kill and if it ran just before you brought it home I'm guessing like the guys above that the wiring somewhere got loose.
