Ineed some help with my Big Red .... I took it out a few times this year & have run into a bunch of problems..... I would like to take care of these problems &try to rebuild the trusty ol chap over the winter.. Any help & or Info on how to go about fixing whats listed below would be appreciated..............

I would like an honest reply without someone yelling to "go buy a manual" beforehand....... I know that I need one so ,,,, Where do I find one .....?????

The engine runs great but it has that famous tick now ,, I can tell that there is a power loss ,, Seems to run a little bit hot & there is a slow oil leak from the front valve cover ............ No indication of any leaking from rear .......... The noise is clearly in the front -- What else can contribute to the tick besides the chain ????

I ran into an issue of the machine being able to engage into reverse without the cable being used .... I sprayed some silicone lubricant & I believe that the isse was resolved ...... I was only able to test run for a few minutes....

The petcock on the gas tank will not stop the gas from pouring out -- Do I have to buy an all new one or can it be rebuilt ??? I didnt see any indication of being able to do so .........

I need all sorts of parts : LMK by email if possible - CHOPSHOPBOBT@AOL.COM

Headlight , Front forks , , Rear Plastics , Rear tailights ....... Ignition / key & Plastic cover would be nice -- (Mine cracked up when it went down a creek upside down & crashed on the rocks)

Thanks for any info , BOB_T

Welcome!

It sounds like your "R" cable was froze up, that happened to me. MotionPro cables go cheaply on eBay.

As for the ticking, is it your timing chain? The only noise I ever hear up front is my 23 y/o steering stem bearings.

Manuals are available on-line (here). Surely, someone will send you that link shortly.

I never had a problem with the petcock, pull it off and get a good look at it.

Try to keep it on all 3 in the creek next time. Good luck with the Big Red, once you get it straightened out, it will be bulletproof.

^^ HAHA,,, The creek is usually low enough to travel through without incident but,,, I forgot about previos rains & I missed the trail turn & when i tried to turn around - The current started to sweep me away afdter the B/R started to float.........

I rode it out as far as i could until i hit the pool ,,,,, Thats when i jumped off & swam for it -- The B/R swam farther down until it hung up on the sand bar under the bridge.................hahaha

Welcome, I can hardly wait to get my two 185s running so I can go play in the mud and the creeks with them . I'm afraid to do that with my Rancher.
