Please don't let anyone tell you that PJ1 works well - unless you don't ride much....
Have them powder coated (I did my cases/covers individually) or have them shot with a high temp paint and a hardner......

Motors is what I do for a living..... see the close up of my 250R on readers rigs page 9 about halfway down. It is the same picture but it will expand. All my motors are painted with DuPont Imron. When I painted my 250R motor it was together. The green aircraft motor was black, I did not take it apart I just taped and painted green. My customer repainted his boat green and wanted the motor to match. I just degreased it, cleaned it real well then hit it with a wire wheel with my air drill. Removed the kicker and shifter.Scuffed it with scotch brite, Taped off all the parts I did not want painted. Primed it with Zinc Chromate Primer for aluminum. Then sprayed it with Imron Black. After it was dry I replaced all the bolts with all fresh bolts to make it look like a rebuild. Chromed the shifter, kicker, motormounts and polished the stator cover and it lookes better than new. It all started when I powdercoated the frame and swingarm and bought new plastic. I could not put the original motor back in the new frame with all the new parts.

im trying to shy away from anything thats gonna make me have to split the motor, pc would be the way to go, as thats what the chassis stuff is gettin. maybe i'll just use the motor as is till she pukes the tear it down and do it right. that would probably be a huge eyesore though.

I'm gonna be facing this same dilema over the winter. So, are you guys saying the way to do it is pull the motor apart and powdercoat?

I am not real big on powdercoating motors. One problem is you cannot tape powder off as well as you can paint. And when the powder gets on a gasket surface you have to sand it off to get a flat surface. And powder is affected by heat and it will continue to bake until it drys out on a hot motor. Unless you use a heat accepted powder like Summax does for motorcycles. If your motor runs good why take it apart. Mine ran perfect but I wanted it to look new. Here is another example of an aircraft engine that I did not take apart. This motor is just taped and painted.

why not do it yourself? Not that hard especially if the engine is out of the frame. Degrease it and clean it really good. Buy some of the duplicolor hi temp engine paint from an auto parts store and paint it up. If it ever gets scuffed up or anything just touch it up as it needs it

get the motor out and get yourself some heavy duty oven cleaner and let it soak over night. rinse and clean with a wire brush. Go buy some good engine paint and spray it yourself. Here is a couple pics of when I did mine
Dirtcrasher is rite.
Just ride it till she pukes her guts then do it the rite way.
