remember what I told you happened to me on the last one I did?
those carrier bolts are spinning because they broke at the weld on the drum backing plate....to get to the backside of them , the drum must come off....I busted off my drum with a big sledge and then got the carrier nuts with a vice grip, pulled off the carrier, put the whole thing in a press, press4ed out the leftover splined part of the brake hub that was left and bout a new brake drum from a guy here
hope that helps

well i got pissed so i heated it up tried to pull it out wouldnt come so i could get all the bolts out that holds the whole axle except one so i heated that one up and broke it so i got the axle somewhat out and gonna buy a whole new one but all i gotta do now is take the chain cover off so i can take it out but how would i get the chain cover off the axle when that dumb hub that the sprocket goes onto is in my way? ughhh

I cut my chain covers off with tin snips....I hated the idea of all that dirt and water getting trapped in there anyway and I couldn`t service my chain either without major work....been way better off without them...this way I can easily visually inspect my chain slack
every 20-yr. old machine I have seen had major chain issues because that cover which was intended to protect the chain from mud and water only served to trap the mud and water in there making the situation worse
if yer gonna restore yer machine to original, I would try and keep the cover...if you wanna be able to service the thing easily, I would cut the thing off like I do...
and we all know what a really slack chain can do to an engine case should it get thrown off and sent through the backside of the right case half because you didn`t know it was stretched
