From what i understand they are the same motors except for the ignition, powervalve/governer components, and different cylinder porting. So does that mean an 85/6 kx250 motor will bolt right in?
Thanks

They will bolt it, but if the crank gear and clutch basket gear holds true to 83-84 kx engines. The bike engines have a taller ratio right off the crank.

Kinda off topic here but is 950 a good price for an 86 tecate with a 84 kfx engine? the thing is mint..i wish i had the money..

I was thinking the KX 250's from 85 up til the early 90's would at least bolt in. Am i wrong on that? The parts may not be interchangeable from engine to engine but i was under the impression that the engine itself would bolt right up. I might be wrong.

What do you mean 84 KFX engine? I don't think there is such a thing. If it's an 86 Tecate in fairly decent shape with a 2 stroke 250cc engine in it, whether stock or swapped but done properly, it is easily worth $950.

Not even close to bolt in. Not worth it.

Not even close to bolt in. Not worth it.Really? This whole time I thought they would bolt in just like the KX 500's do.

the '86 KX250 has identical powervalves and porting as the '86-7 tecate...

It does.. the primary gear is 20 tooth on the KX's.. 18 on tecates

So how much will the taller gear ratio affect me? Cant i just play with the sprockets? Also, does the exhaust and carb line up fine?

yes the gearing will work fine, and can be corrected some with sprockets if you find the ratios to be too tall for you. The exhaust and carb line up exactly the same since they are identicle engines...
