View Full Version : I did it. I ordered a Lifan for the 70.

What have I gotten myself into??? After weeks of deliberation, I ordered a 110cc electric, semi-auto 4-down engine from Tbolt after checking to make sure they were in stock. I shudder to think of all the little things I don't know I'm going to have to buy to make it work, though I'm sure it will be worth it.

I read on 3wheeler.org that I'll need the Sub W4 and W5 harnesses from Dr.ATV for the electric start motor, but I haven't placed any order from there yet. I'll need new fuel lines I'm sure also, not to mention other things. Do these things come with a starter button and kill switch? Can the original kill switch be used to turn the CDI on and off in conjunction with a separate starter button? I doubt it as I saw a key switch on the Dr. ATV site.

The motor comes with a 19mm carb, and what I'm sure is an intake that won't fit under the gas tank. I wonder if I should go ahead and get the 20mm carb kit/intake from Sterdy that fits under the gas tank or what. I was thinking the whole 20mm carb/intake because the intake is described as working for 20-24mm carbs and this will have a 19. I'll probably hold off ordering anything until the engine arrives and I have it set into the frame. Any advice whatsoever is appreciated.

Thanks!

A buddy of mine has a quad with the 110 lifan. It's impressed me!!! Sure it's not a honda or won't last as long, but it sounds great runs fine, hauls my fat ass around with no problems and even if it only lasts a few years, you can buy a complete engine for like 200$!! Hard to beat that.

I just got my lifan 110 motor too. There are a few things you will need to make it run. Mine came with the intake and carb so that saved me some cash. But here are the other things you will need, not to mention you need to find a place to put a battery box. Some mount it on the side of the frame near the rear wheel and some put it on the skid plate.

When i bought mine it came with everything. I bought it off of ebay and all it saiid is it came with the carb and intake. When it got here it had 2 diffrent carbs and intakes, complete wiring harness, solenoid, kill switch, throttle cable with twist throttle, cdi etc etc etc. It was a whole box full of stuff. It was the Loncin instead of the Lifan. From the reseach i did they were a little cheaper and the same quality. The only thing i need to buy will be a battery and battery box. It even had all of the mounting bolts, oil and a box of three open element air filters. I think i paid $225 with shipping. It also had a 6 month warranty from the time of purchase, but of course that has been long expired.

Whn I ordered mune of eBay, it came with everthing. I had to swap out the intake. My carb did not co,e with a fuel petcock, DR ATV has a nice one that I made work. As for a handle bar switch I went with a Honda one off of ATC/TRX125, Early Big Red, or ATC200m type. It has all the switches (kill Headlight, HI/Lo) and is real compact with a replaceable starter button. Also used a ATC125 Dash with the key switch.(would need to check and see if that fits a stock frame.)

This (http://tboltusa.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=114_119&products_id=159) is the one I ordered. Went with 4-down semi-auto shift pattern. I didn't go with e-bay because I only saw a pair of 110s on there, and one of them was w/ reverse (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LIFAN-110CC-ENGINE-MOTOR-ELEC-START-HONDA-ATV-W-REVERSE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35595QQihZ008QQ itemZ180281787626QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW). I placed the order from Tbolt right before I created this thread last night and this afternoon I've already got a shipping confirmation.

I've also had some bad juju with expensive items on e-bay lately. I ordered a set of Douglas aluminum wheels and mini holeshots on July 25th under the pretense that they were in stock. 9 days later without a tracking number, I called the people (a store) and find out that they were not in stock, despite the e-bay ad. They are backordered until August 27th. 2 days after I called the people and found out they were backordered, they placed a unpaid item strike on me, which was BS as I paid on July 25th when I placed the order. After finally getting that settled, I still don't have my wheels or my money back, but the wheels are supposed to be coming. The same people already put up more ads selling these Douglas wheels and mini holeshots for the ATC 70 claiming they're in stock when they don't have any. And get this, the wheels/tires are now selling for $20 cheaper than when I ordered them, and I still don't have the damned things I ordered. Dammit

I already put one of those wide PRM grab bars on. But speaking of wheelies, I was riding a few weeks ago in front of a friend's house, and I hauled ass in first, popped it into second, gave it hell and pulled up, and boy did she come right on up, almost straight up! I was wearing shorts, and my legs went flying off the pegs straight out, then they came down and the knobby tires ate the hell out of the backs of my legs. I was told my eyes were the size of dinner plates when it came up on me. I also got this awesome lighted flag pole (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-lghted-flag-pole-atv-rhino-450r-yfz450-ltr450_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1 247QQcategoryZ43980QQihZ004QQitemZ140233870404QQrd Z1QQsspagenameZWD1V) and a red beer flag, and a pirate flag that says 'surrender the booty'. Tailgating will be too much fun this year.

That one with reverse is kind of interesting. Uses a international shift 4 speed, and has the 1st as a reverse and 2nd as the new first. Kinda like the big red and sx use a xr250 motor with a reverse where the xr had first.

found a company dealing the 3 speed w/ reverse (http://www.t-motorsports.com/11limoenw.html)

They use the 70-style bottom end which means that to install in a 110 frame, you need to add some spacers and "possibly" drill a new hole in the frame for the mounting bolt. I put a stock 110 engine into a 70 a while ago, and I needed to trim the engine mounts and slightly modify the frame. Shouldn't be too hard.

I have a 100cc in a 110 frame. Bolt the top bolt in place and clearance (grind) the second layer of frame back off the hi-lo sideof the frame. Should tilt the motor down a little. Drill a new lower hole, and its bolted in.

Left side of the frame by the rear tire. Weld the battery box on the frame and run the wires. Since these machines arent going to be major racers or jumpers, you can find an empty spot and mount it there.

The project stalled for awhile, but I've had a little time lately. I had ordered the Sterdy under exhaust, which I had to exchange for the over model due to starter-motor clearance. Now I'm having hell with the wiring. I have the sub w-4 and sub w-5 harnesses from Dr.ATV, along with the harness that came with my motor. The CDI unit that came with the motor was incorrect. It is a 4-wire when it should have been a 5-wire. I've ordered a 5-wire from Hooper, as T-bolt didn't specify 4 or 5 wire on their CDI. It should arrive by Tuesday. I need to get this thing running by Friday (Texas Tech/Texas game)!!! I've got the battery box built and have the battery. I'm just having hell with all these wires. Colors don't match up with the diagrams I have. Any more help/pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Go to hooper imports, look up their wiring diagram, hAck your wiring harness to pieces, ignoring colors, except taking note of what the aires coming off of the cdi do, make your own wiring harness. I fought with mine on my 200x for 12 hours straight trying to do it their way. No spark. Hacked it all up, did it my way, 10 minutes later I had a runner.

Nemesis-Z250
10-30-2008, 04:03 AM
So I tried to bolt on the foot pegs and they don't fit correctly on the Lifan. I can't even bolt them in because the bend in the bar leading to the pegs interferes with the shifter mechanism coming straight out of the motor; with or without the shift-lever mounted. I guess I'm going to have to take a torch to the foot pegs and bend them. I hadn't heard of this problem at all. I'd read on .org that the foot pegs will bolt right up to a Lifan 110.

My 5-wire CDI should be in tomorrow so I can get the electrical crap worked out. I got the carb (Sheng-Wey 20mm) and (Sterdy) intake bolted onto the motor and got the throttle all hooked up. I don't have a fuel-selector or filter. I guess that's one other thing to be addressed.

I was worried about gas tank clearance with the carb. I've got a $65 or whatever plastic tank from e-bay and the stock tank. I'm going to run the plastic tank because the fuel line spigots of my metal tank rest on the carb cap which receives the throttle cable. The plastic tank still rests on the cap a bit, but I'm going to raise the back of it up with a spacer, and mount the seat to the frame without fenders. Open-wheeler.

I'm about 95% sure this thing ain't running by Friday night. Looks like I'm taking the 350x to the tailgate...again.

Where did you find that shifter? I've looked at 300ex shifters online and they don't seem to have that shape to them. The one at bikebandit doesn't have that curve.
