I have chipped a little piece of one of my heads fins from the decompression lever hitting it after I pull it. Will it effect engine performance? Would I be able to weld it up reason I ask is I dont see weld anywere on the head.

This is ridiculous I dont use the decompression lever my rope will probably snap if I do use it it will chip away at my head. Seems like I cant win with this trike.

if all your refering to is just a small piece of fin chipped away.. it will be fine...post a pic tho

I posted this thread twice by accident and one had a picture and one didnt so heres the pic

http://3wheelerworldforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=68233&d=1219734780

If its not damaging to the head I will try and get someone I know to weld it back on again because it probably lowers the value of the bike having a chunk off one of the fins

Would a decompression lever from a trike that does not come with a decompression cable stock bash against the head so hard?

Do you think it would be harmful to weld the bit that chipped off back on?

I wouldn't worry about it.

Must be an awful tight injun that you could'nt pull it without the decompression lever..

That should be ok, dont worry much about it, just run it.

It'd probably do more harm than good welding it. You'd probably be better just using a die grinder to 'smooth' it in a little, so it dont notice as bad.
The trouble with welding it is its an intense amount of heat and could easily distort the metal, and the weld would always show anyway. Just dress it in.
My 200s has no decompression hooked up. Never snapped the rope, you just have to get it on compression stroke and make sure the slack is out of the rope before you pull.

what about j b weld? that should do the trick if your worried about the ambient heat from welding. just grind it down afterwards, and it should look pretty decent. cost affective too.

what is jb weld?

and i can start it without decompression lever but last month i snapped 3 ropes in 4 weeks so that is why I use decompression for pretty much every start now each time the rope snapped i didnt use decompression when i do it without decompression I would pull it out a little bit and overcome the hardest part of the pull then give it a yank from there and it fires up.

j b weld is a product in two tubes you mix together, apply it to whatever and let it cure. ( i think its like 24 hours). its dam strong after it hardens, ike liquid welding which you can then grind down. stuff costs like 3 bucks.

Take a look at ALL of the fins and think of the total "surface area", - that broken fin might be 2% of that. Don't sweat it in the least..............

maybe an auto parts or radiator shop, maybe even wholesale on e bay

I cant stand it my trike already looks like a wreck with no rear plastics and a vice grip shifter. If I can find JB weld cheap enough I will purchase it because it will come in handy for afew other things too.

vice grip shifter? buy a shifter for it. I seen them go for $3-$10 on ebay.

I plan on getting a shifter slicing the end off it and welding it to the original shifter because all the shifters are around here are designed for 2 wheelers and dont clear the recoil starter unless i put them on vertically. Ive gone through 2 shifters the other week (one for trike one for my 2 wheeler)which came to a total of $58 for the 2 but thats another story which I wont get into.

and ebay is a good option but shipping from USA to NZ would probably be worth more then the product its self.

That shifter looks good but I dont know how much that would be in NZ$ or if he would ship to NZ

and we dont have Walmarts. We do have K-Marts but they dont sell anything at all to do with ATVs

Agreed, that fin is not going to effect anything at all. Don't even worry about it. What kind of a trike is it again ? I can probably get you a shifter pretty easy, but I have no idea what it would cost to ship it to you.

I have a chipped fin on my CR480... I just reshaped it with a grinder and sanded it smooth... now it looks like it was made that way.

Mine seems to be chipped off real close to the top of the head that looks like it can be unbolted. Probably too close for me to want to grind it so I guess i will just have to leave it how it is for now or get some of that jb weld.

Little chip like that won't hurt anything!
